I’ve been in the Leazes when Burn was the subject of the abuse a couple of seasons ago and from the moment the ref blew his whistle they were shouting about how Burn was worse than shite and moaning and groaning anytime he got near the ball. Dan Burn, a home town lad, a Newcastle fan, a war horse, who gives his all every single game without question. Who’s since gone on to play for England and become a club legend for his performances last season and his Wembley goal. But when he was in poor form he was public enemy No 1. Singled out and rounded up on by certain sections of our home support. They’re fucking morons and the ground would benefit if they fucked off and stopped coming to games, but they’re stuck to their seats like toxic limpets.

Personally, I’ve got no issue with people on a forum saying he isn’t playing well. He’s got off to a bad start, his effort’s there but his output’s been shit and we can all see that. I’ll argue with people who say he’s always been shit, because he hasn’t, he was a stand out player for Forest for 2 x seasons and we scouted him for a long time. And he’s only 23. And I’ll argue with people who say it’s acceptable to abuse our own players in the ground, when they’re trying hard but struggling for form. We should be supporting him, not berating him. The price we paid is what we paid. £55m isn’t that much these days for a player who had proven themselves as attacking talent in the Premier League. The hyper-inflation of football transfer fees is disgusting, but it is what it is unfortunately.

Bloke for Palace wearing 86, is that the highest shirt number ever worn by a player at an English team ? Fucking 86. Worlds gone mad.

It was an away end at home. In exactly the same stadium we have now. Not harking back to bygone eras. The “we don’t care about Ashley” chant that would just go on for ages, everyone in unison, it was relentless. It shows what can be achieved in the current stadium if they would let us.

My best memory of Curva Nord was at half time, can’t remember who we were playing, when a middle aged couple reached into a carrier bag and unveiled 2 x packs of vacuum sealed hotdogs and they ripped each of the packs open and just started munching away together as if eating cold vacuum packed hotdogs in the singing section of a football stadium was completely normal. I’ve always liked to think they were on a first date and she’d sorted the scran.

What’s your thoughts on the interpretation of When The Beans Come Out The Tin ?

And it’s within earshot of the away fans. One of the best things about Curva Nord was away fans right next door to us and that fuelled the atmosphere.

That’s where the club risk shooting themselves in the foot through their lack of positive action on singing sections etc. We're already seeing it with the easier availability of resale tickets recently. Demand is definitely dropping off, for a combination of reasons, but matchday experience is one. Regular match by match punters (people like Wallsendmag and yours truly) who go to the match because we want to join in with vocal support are now getting sick of spending £50+ a game, plus all the hassle of getting tickets, just to sit there in frustration because most parts of the ground are really quiet. And getting into The Corner, where we'd want to be, is really difficult, it's a tiny section of the ground where hardly any tickets come up. And the less regular punters turning up expecting to hear the famous atmosphere are probably sitting there thinking, well this is a bit quiet, not sure it’s giving me the bug to want to become a regular punter and it's cost me £50+ for the ticket. Which leaves the people who go and like it and will keep going, they're the ones who are happy enough just to sit quietly and clap from time to time. So you end up in a vicious circle.

Customers rather than colleagues is right in a work analogy but I think everyone knows what I meant. We’re meant to be supporters, an extension of the team, we’re supposed to be all in it together. Supporting. And the crowd moaning isn’t exaggerated, it’s what’s happening. Same as Longstaff, same as Burn, same as Wood, Miggy amongst others. Many matchgoing NUFC fans need someone in black and white to direct their hatred at. If a player is trying hard get behind them and support them through a rough patch. Moaning at them achieves fuck all.

If you'd just started a new job and it was a job you'd done well at another company, but at the new place you were taking a while to settle, so then loads of people in the workplace moaned and complained at anything you did and took great pleasure in shouting at you to tell you that you were shite at the job, would you think your performance and confidence would get: a) better or b) worse

How much profit did you make on all those sales ? If we view profit as price paid vs price sold

I'd wait and see how his skin is doing after Eczemas, he'll be slathered in E45 itch relief cream until the New Year and might not be fit to play for months

The psychological and cultural explanation is simple: Standing shifts people from audience mode to group member mode. It boosts energy, lowers inhibition, and creates the social signals that say, “Join in.” Sitting naturally puts the body into a more passive, “observer” mode. When you stand, you can see others participating, which creates social proof: “Everyone else is singing—so it’s okay if I do too.” Sitting often signals “watch quietly,” while standing signals “participate.” In a standing crowd, individual behaviour blends into the group. When seated, people feel more individually visible and judged—especially if others nearby stay quiet. The brain has learned: standing = interact; sitting = consume.

I’ve run a few questions through ChatDazzla, the internets best generative artificial intelligence twatbot… Is the atmosphere good at St James’ Park currently – no Will it ever be like it was in the 70’s and 80’s – no Can it be better than it was between the 1990’s and now – yes How – introduce large amounts of safe standing, like other clubs have already done Will that be enough - no What else would be needed – designate the standing sections to be singing areas Do singing areas at St James’ Park work – yes, they do currently and have in the past Does creating new singing and standing areas mean some people with season tickets might have to move seats – yes Will they complain about that – some will, yes Why – because they think they’re more important than the greater good of the club What are NUFC doing to embrace the potential of safe standing and singing sections – fuck all Why – fuck knaaz If you want, I can also share some insight into why some fans at St James’ Park only turn up to piss and moan or sit in silence. Would you like me to do that ?

Isak costed £125m and on current form he’d get picked last when they’re choosing teams for the lunchtime game of football in the school yard at West Jesmond Primary

Left side looks very exposed and bold not picking a goalie

He’ll probably come back up here and humiliate us like Chris Wood did a couple of Christmases ago.

100% this. Can you put it on a massive flag please

Woeful tonight. Really, really poor. I was stood in the back row of the Gallowgate West Corner and a few of us were trying our best, but it’s like pulling hens teeth. The St James Park atmosphere’s not pinin'! It’s passed on! The noise is no more! It has ceased to be! It has expired and gone to meet its maker! The ground’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed fans to their seats they’d be pushing up the daisies! Their metabolic processes are now 'istory! The atmosphere is off the twig! It’s kicked the bucket, It’s shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible

Grounds don’t have to be all seater anymore and other clubs have installed huge amounts of safe standing, which at least gives an opportunity to get like minded people together and let them stand and sing. So theoretically it should be better than it’s been since the 90’s. Look at L7 Singing Section back in the day and The Corner now, both were the best areas for atmosphere in the ground by miles, in the current version of SJP. If we’re given an opportunity to deliver as fans, we have done. But NUFC don’t want to do anything to try and allow us to improve the atmosphere, for whatever reason that is.
-
The crowd need a pantomime villain to moan and whinge about and the chosen one is currently Elanga Longstaff had the same, so did Dan Burn, so did Chris Wood, so have many others. Elanga’s been poor, but large sections of the crowd berating him constantly isn’t going to make a player play better, it makes them play worse.
