I’m not going this time, first one since mercantile cup 88? Which barely counts. I had a ticket on shared st but can’t really afford it this year and have lots of other stuff going on. I’m a mixed bags of emotions, loads of people I know have managed to blag them or get thru pot 6 this time so don’t have too many options for pubs Sunday. Turned down fan zone at Times Square as not my bag so it will be junction or at home i think.

The first final I recall we weren’t out of the woods of relegation danger until fairly later on in season til we hammered Barnsley. We are relatively better than we were for both of those and again playing league winners by the look of it.

Aye Barnsley and West Brom the beaten semi finalists that year too!

Spurs are a bit of a loose horse and its good that we played them and got an away win when they were at a low ebb.

I've thought about it recently as seems surreal they and Swansea won league cups in the not too distant past.

I wonder if in Italys case, don't know as much about Spain, if this is due to being dominated by mainly 3 teams (Juve and both Milan's) since the days of Pro Vercelli, Genoa and Bologna winning things before European competition. Even a big side like Roma have only won the league 3 times I believe ditto Napoli and Lazio is only 2. Fiorentina were in one of the early European finals for winning the league but don't think they have since the 50's. Samp only ever won it once etc.

Did Queen of the south not get in one year? Ross county too, Inverness cally too surely have.

Grenta played Derry I think and got knocked out. For ages Dundee was one of the only cities to provide more than one European cup semi finalist along with Belgrade and Milan but I’d imagine London, Madrid and Manchester all figure now. the comical thing about the mackems European adventures was they didn’t even get out the English stage of the Anglo Italian, Italy ended at Southend for them.

I suppose the mcewans looked ok in black and white as did greenalls, not sure if that’s just nostalgia or they had more interesting logos. Juve Sony/danone/ariston/upim always looked good too

I think having the sponsor on monochrome colours doesn’t really light up a shirt, the blue star was obviously iconic but it also gave the shirt some colour.

I think there would be people maybe dropping out of the semi due to money etc but scared to not buy in case of getting to the final, so selling on to mates etc.

Imagine the ructions when we get 10 k tickets for a Europa/conference final in besiktas/leipzig.

I was toying with this last time, I only got a ticket the day before the final and the group of lads I usually go with were already down London. I’ve had not such hassle this time (my turn on st) but I’ll not be as fortunate if we make it to fa cup final, which presumably would offer us a better chance of winning should we get that far. I’d still obviously rather we won when i wasn’t there but it would be gutting to miss the ‘first’ one.

Even then 7th would get Europe if England gets extra space, unless win league cup, which obviously gets us Europe anyway.

7th would be bumped to conference if a team below us won fa cup.

7th and Villa or someone beating Man City in the cup final would be a kick in the teeth, again.
