Yeah we probably hobble along, get comfortably knocked out of CL and other cups and then hopefully new staff will be in place and they will do some business in January to try and salvage something from the league campaign. Likely attempt to sneak a conference league place.
-
at the very least they have ensured they have a far easier game against us in a few weeks compared to if none of this had happened and Isak had done a full pre-season and was fully committed. Now they likely only have to face us with Gordon or Osula upfront. Worst case is they have fucked our whole season by contributing to our summer transfer chaos, turning Isak's head so much that he might throw a full strop and refuse to play or possibly buy him for less than we wanted to sell. What a lovely wholesome club they are

Then they just sign another for £70m+ next summer. There is zero consequences for these clubs. Liverpool - Nunez unbelievable flop really in the context of the fee they paid. Still recouped around £50m for him and still able to sign whoever they want as seen so far. Chelsea - huge fee for Mudryk, complete flop so far and now banned for doping. Any other club and that would have been a financial shot in the head but not even a blip to them. Add also to the countless strikers they have signed over the years that flopped. Crikey I mean they signed Lukaku for £90m was it? then just had to loan him out ever year. Man U - where do you even start, Antony, Sancho, Hojilund. Yet had zero impact on their ability to spend.
-
in the same scenario as us however in that not signing a replacement for their outgoing striker so they have to keep them is probably the best outcome for both. Provided both players don't go on strike for the rest of the season. Then both clubs are screwed really. I suppose they still have that Schade and Igor Thiago who was injured all season wasn't he?
-
Arguably had a worse summer than us, which is some feat, if they lost Wissa with no replacement.

I know I'm just being bitter for the sake of being bitter

Selling to these cunts after they strung us along for Trafford for so long.

The idea of a team we finished within 3 points of, who went and signed all the players we wanted, to replace Jackson. To then sign their castoff, for an inflated price to replace Isak? Nah, just can't get on board with that. It's throwing in the towel, retreating back into top 10 territory instead of fighting out with Chelsea for top 5 like we have been doing. Cannot believe what has happened this summer. It's really perplexing.

Was more speaking in general to our transfer approach this summer. Can't seem to close deals for the ones we want, perhaps failed to do our homework on the right ones and who would be willing to join etc. I guess slack can be given for striker as they probably didn't anticipate needing to get a Isak replacement this summer, but they knew Wilson was leaving and didn't appear to have anyone lined up and ready to go early on. Have also failed to fill the other position holes that have been known for 18 months.
-
If we miss out and in turn it forces them to reject all further approaches for Isak this summer. We still end the summer with the best striker out of everyone (bar maybe Haaland if he gets back to his best). Yes we will have been shit on all summer long but the result is that other clubs still wish their strikers were as good as Isak. That all depends on if he is willing to play and not sulk for 12 months.

Good to know Man U and Spurs can stink out the league with the seasons they just had and still drop £130m each with likely a further £70m+ each likely to be spent (Sesko for man u and whoever spurs buy with the MGW money)
-
I know they haven't signed anyone yet. However I imagine our preparations going into this season are remarkable different. Emery will have been drilling his squad into shape without a hint of media intrusion or chaos. Meanwhile we have had the Isak circus, the countless transfer near misses. Long haul flights disrupting ability to train etc.
-
Can just agree with the league to right off whatever losses they have like they did with the COVID shit.
-
Surely this recent trend of promoting new kits without the sponsor is basically false advertising? Ofcourse the kits look better without a sponsor, basically the case for every football shirt.
-
Never felt right this deal and seemed like we were being used / getting desperate.
-
Just when you thought this summer couldn't get anymore tedious.
-
So if we get him he's the new Michael Owen who never wanted to sign but we outbid the team he wanted so he came reluctantly. Awesome.
-
Will be back amongst the top 8 if they keep building sensibly. Were decent against us in the final game.
-
Irrelevant if we can't agree terms with the player. If we are offering £100k a week to join us now. But then if he waits a year he can start for his preferred choice, get a large signing on fee as a free transfer and possibly also get £200k a week or whatever. Us agreeing a few with Palace does nothing really other than give him a decision to make. But the power is still all with Guehi.
-
If his heart is set on Liverpool then he will wait for Liverpool. He didn't kick up any fuss at all to join us last summer when he could have easily done an Isak if he wanted to come. So he will happily do another season with Palace if he gets his desired move next summer and for likely much higher wages than we will be able to offer.

I don't pretend to fully understand psr. But does it not mean that we can't just splash out ias much as we would like to if we got a big fee for Isak due to the amortisation nonsense? So we are still paying for previous signings spread over 5 years. If we sign any new players we are then spreading their cost over 5 years of their contract on top of existing players. But with the rolling 3 year thing. If we got £150m or whatever for Isak now. We bank it all this season and then only get the benefit of it on the books for 3 seasons? Therefore once that drops off, whatever we have spent on new players. In the remaining 2 years of their 5 year contracts after the Isak sale drops off would need to be covered by large rises in revenue growth? Otherwise we are in another psr hole where we must sell another player for big money to cover the deficit?
