I would have thought that is the job of the manager to organise his team and being buddies with Carr there really is no excuse for not getting the right personnel through the door.Ashley has publicly said that he's going to spend big this time, so if between the 3 of them - or 4 if you include lickspittle Charnley - if they can't put a workable squad together, what's the point? We're already at that stage and have been for quite some time now. But previously the pro-Pardew brigade could argue that he wasn't able to implement his own brand of football because he had no say in the transfer policy. Now at least Carr and McClaren should be on the same page so assuming Ashley loosens the purse strings even a little bit, then there's no excuse for not getting the right players for the positions required. If we need a big defender we should be signing a big defender. There's certainly a case for arguing that, had we had a manager on a similar wave length to Carr in terms of rating players in the first place (ie instead of Pardew), the likes of Yanga-Mbiwa, Marveaux, Santon - maybe even Ben Arfa - would still be playing for the club. Or, at the very least, sold on for a profit rather than a loss. It's very tempting to write McClaren off as a jobs-for-the-boys type of appointment, but his connections with Carr really should work in the club's favour going forward.

Exactly. Until he realises that the manager is the most important individual at the club and should be the number 1 priority when he talks about his "investment" we're on a hiding to nothing. Spending loads on quality players is completely negated by having a gormless c*** like Carver in the dugout working with them everyday. He simply doesn't understand. He's the type of bloke I'd imagine solves problems by throwing money at it and it doesn't quite work like that when it comes to running a football club. what always got me about Pardew and the 'transfer system' they have in place was that Pardew was always fighting against it as well...he was a somewhat competent manager (compared to say carver) but because he didn't believe in the system of being handed players he went out of his way to f***ing hamstring himself by either dropping them, playing them out of position, or forcing them out of the club....or all three then we get carver who will do what he's told so the system is irrelevant, he just happens to be utterly incompetent M'Biwa. Clearly never fancied him from the off and only played him when he absolutely had to. M'biwa didn't have the best of starts over here but there was no point in signing him if the manager was barely going to play him. Just need to get their heads together and talk it out. Then again it's all moot because under Ashley making a profit on players appears to be the main/only reason they come in at all. Until the needs of the team come before the needs of the balance sheet then we're all fighting a losing battle. Well, all of us apart from 1 individual... Except you can't generate profit if the players don't perform. Ashley's lost money on Santon, Yanga-Mbiwa and Ben Arfa, and probably stands to make further losses on Tiote, Gouffran and possibly Cisse. It honestly baffles me how Ashley continues to fatally undermine the importance of appointing a progressive, open-minded manager capable of working within the club's structures - it's essential, be it for getting results or generating profit off player sales

He was decent today. Outshone by Anita obviously but was more positive on the ball than usual I thought.

That overhead kick looked pretty clean to me like. What about his 2 goals against Palace? I think he's alright. He's much more of a nuisance than Cisse and his link-up play is generally better, even if his finishing is pretty wank.

He was all over Song like a fly around shit. Didn't give him an inch. Brilliant defensive display.

And all the games they lost earlier in the season. Well yes, but they had a good run gong, a loss to Chelsea wasn't surprising. This situation could be negative if the players start thinking their manager has lost it. Tbf Pearson would probably murder anyone who questioned him, but this hasn't been helpful to the them Aye I agree, this particular flare-up was very strange bearing in mind how good they've been recently. Pearson is a near-lunatic mind, so anything's possible. Only just got round to watching this. The whole thing is really odd, really difficult viewing. It almost seemed as if Pearson had been on the sauce beforehand, just so aggressive and awkward for the sake of it.
