All right, going to watch injury time and extra time. The thing is, if Southgate played Gordon on the left and for whatever reason it didn’t work out I’d hold my hands up and say “fair enough, maybe I don’t know as much as I think about football, at least he tried.” This, though, is spectacularly infuriating. Just maddening.

Posted this in the other thread but was working through the game, keeping an eye on the BBC text. Is it worth watching any of the game other than the goals? It just sounded like…everything we’ve been talking about again, again…again

“Why would I not want to play our best players?” Because we’ve seen it not work and for the fleeting seconds when you did what every supporter with half a fucking brain saw you needed to do we looked ace. ”But why would I not want to play our best players?” Repeat ad nauseam.

Disagree. The biggest problem is that we don’t have balance and an outlet on the left that opens things up allowing the central pairing more space and options when we have the ball. That’s when they get the chance to change the rhythm and tempo. They’ve been setting it up to now, just always at slow because the one option for a change of pace gets double-covered on the right.

Yup, every sport tbh.

Oh I wasn’t restricting myself to football. Not by a long chalk.
-
Said it in the other thread: my gut reaction is just not to watch which makes me a bit depressed, tbh. I feel like I’ve been doomscrolling continuously over the last 24hrs . Is anything not shite? Anything at all?
-
Genuinely considering just not watching. All I feel is sadness.

Sort of makes some sense. Family probably should have been Millwall but he had ideas above his station.
-
Yeah kinda. Almost all of it is bollocks so I ignore most of the Spurs stuff too. If there’s a clear and obvious chance to wind somebody up (Man U?) then you should take that as seriously as is necessary. I’ll usually respond to stuff on here if I have to defend Spurs though
-
Yeah yours was just the last post - should have quoted one of the ones with “fuck” in them. It just makes me laugh when people seem to take this stuff seriously. I mean, we all like a bit of banter, but transfer twitter is just guff for the most part.

It’s sweet that you’re all so triggered by this one tweet I have a vague memory that Emery likes Lo Celso (as he should, he’s good). Presume that’s why it’s been mentioned. Don’t know why anybody who’s been a fan for over - say - 20 years takes any notice of any of this stuff. It’s fun, but until something actually happens it’s chip paper. Much more relaxing to just wait until a transfer is confirmed.

All carping about his nonsense aside, I’m with Napoleon on this.

Yup. Everything from 8:30 is what we’ve been banging our head against the wall about.

That might be true, and IIRC there were people on here saying he can’t not play Foden or whoever (Bellingham, TAA, Kane etc). The thing is, I don’t give the slightest shit and neither should he. Work out what you think the most effective team is going to be and play that. He’s been the manager for eight years. If that’s a genuine issue at this point then all this talk about changing the culture etc - the thing that I actually still back him for - is a failure too.

I think you’re right about the changes in expectation but that word covers a multitude of sins. There were always silly people who thought “we’ve got all these great players ergo we should be great” while ignoring the obvious deficiencies at the back and in the Director’s chair. But I’m with you in that I had expectations fuelled partly by Gordon’s good performances in the run up. It seemed like we had the skeleton of a really interesting team with lots of potential and some useful substitutes. I’m 51, been watching and playing football for ever, pretty clever, and I think I’ve got a reasonable grasp of the game. I just feel like I’m being gaslit by Southgate. It’s all just so fucking stupid. There’s a way to set up that builds around Kane, but we’ve not done that. Or that builds around Foden, but we’ve not done that. Or that builds around Bellingham, but we’ve not done that either. It just all seems completely pointless until we do the obvious and play Gordon. Then we can have the discussion about who the middle three are, or if we fuck Kane off and have somebody who runs around up front, or if we tweak the FBs. I fear that TAA has already had his mind fried by trying to play CM. Of course everyone is missing the obvious reason we’ve been shit. He didn’t pick a Spurs player.

I really think people are over-analyzing things. This hasn’t been shit because of expectations or players not trying or caring. It’s been shit because of a glaring fundamental tactical error by Southgate that he apparently just refuses to see. Where it gets more complex is when we seem to sit back after scoring a goal, but we can’t even judge that properly until we’re playing a proper XI with a proper LM/LW. I don’t see any point in more extensive analysis or criticism until he fixes that. It changes so much.
-
Well that would have been stunning. Are you fucking watching Southgate?
-
Gordon scoring now would be mint
-
Loved that touch from Palmer.
-
Trent masterclass
-
Yup. Although still not the obvious move we’ve been talking about for fucking weeks now.
-
Southgate taking all the piss now.

He clearly feels he needs to rest Saka when he can. It’s one of the few things I can’t fault him on. Much rather have a fresher Saka in the knockout.
