Markus Rosenberg released by Werder Bremen. Meh, possible?
-
No chance, he was on a downward spiral when we bought him. Depor were laughing all the way to the bank with the money we spent on him, his flash in the pan season in the Cl was not indicitave of his entire career, and he certainly wasn't at that level when we bought him. You look how bleurgh his career was here and afterwards, there was no way he was ever gonna be turned around.

Benfica and Porto really do stockpile South Americans.
-
Not meant as a racist comment at all but Houghton seems to prefer players that have the same skin tone as him, Routledge, Simpson, Best and now Perch. Hall and van Aanholt.
-
Our best players are foreign though.

Former Boro youngster and once supposed next big thing, Nathan Porritt, has joined SC Olhanense in Portugal.
-
My first thought aswell.

Liverpool didn't need to apply for a work permit when they signed him as he has an Italian passport. fuck
-
Lucas is nowhere near as bad as people make out, but you're right it would be a pointless signing. A player in a position that is not really needed and doesn't improve what is aready there. Pretty sure he doesn't have an EU passport anyway though, so It'd be out of bounds.

Get a competent player to play the role in the hole, and an actual defensive midfielder and I'd agree. However relying on Smith to cover the defence/maintain possession and Nolan to be the creative fulcrum of the side is never going to work - it will infact just help to show up their glaring inadequacies by giving them the greatest responsibility in the side. Germany's best players this competition? Ozil and Schweinsteiger, says alot about the importance of them positions to this system.

Absolutely no idea I just remember it being posted when we signed him.

2004–2006 Deportivo B 53 (39) 2004–2008 Deportivo La Coruña 44 (12) 2006–2007 → Vecindario (loan) 27 (13) 2008– Newcastle United 7 (1) 2009–2010 → Racing Santander (loan) 23 (3) Ones in bold are top flight clubs (a part from the few games he played for the toon in the Championship) I am sure when he signed for us he had scored 7 goals in not that may minutes that season, it's not really that important, it was only a throw away comment. The fact is matey from France looks to have something like a 1 in 5 career goal record and the strikers we currently have probably match that, he isn't what we need imo. You're right, he did have a good goals per minute ratio, infact I've dug up the table: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/supersewelly/Scorers_001.jpg

Coutinho has already taken this season's spot up I think. Masch and Filipe who have both been linked have EU passports so they are still possibilities. It actually changes very little tbh.

Des where is the fun in that reply! I expected you be pumped up like Jimmy sad sack aka Sewelly. Tbf I'm not the only one who disagrees with your way of thinking going by this thread. It doesn't irk me, I just don't understand the logic behind it. I've just realised you've called me by my first name twice in this thread, how the fuck?
-
No, it was SBR's death. Ahh, yes, of course.
-
Wasn't it that Jonas story that dragged you into this place originally VI?

You know what's sad? You're probably right

Erm, is there a European team like? I don't see why it's that hard to understand. I support Newcastle because I'm born there and have grown up to support that club and that it's the team I identify with. I support England because it's my country of birth and my nationality, and again it's the team I identify with. There is nothing to identify with in terms of Europe, there is no European team to support. Just a selection of other countries that are rivalrous to each other and to my country, lots of other countries that have different languages, cultures and governments. As far as I'm concerned these other countries are just as much as rivals as South American countries are. Really why should I (or anybody in Europe) feel the need to prioritise support because of geography or politics? I think this collective 'Europe' thing is a bit stupid tbh. Fair enough if you want to get behind your Eurobrothers though I guess... Nearly all of Europe absolutely hate the English. Exactly.

Shame on me for backing an underdog like. Also, it's Waldo Ponce. If that was the joke you were playing.

Politics is not football. Never said it was but you said Europe was no more than a 'lump of land' which is nonsense. As far as I'm concerned it is. The political, economic etc relations of the countries doesn't influence my footballing bias. So in terms of the relevance to this thread and to this sport, it really is nothing more than a 'lump of land' to me.

Politics is not football.

amazing comment Amazingly true comment. Amazing that any European could say that tbh. Beggars belief. I don't class myself as a continent. I class myself as a nationality. I couldn't give a toss about which continent the WC winner is from when it's not my country. Sure, I have some countries I'd rather see win a WC than others. But neither of those are from Europe. Well, thinking about it that is wrong, I don't really mind Sweden doing well. In general I have a strong dislike for most European national football teams. Exactly. Europe is nothing but a lump of land, ooh so a country is closer means I should feel more connected to it. Fuck that. If anything there should be more of a rivalry between teams from the same continent. I'll latch onto certain countries and hope they do well, but I'd never base it on the fact they were European. For example out of the countries remaining in the competition I want Uruguay to win it, and if they don't then Netherlands. The reasoning behind supporting either of these teams has nothing to do with their geographical proximity to where I live.

He'd still walk into our team tbh.
