Resting 'The Gouff' for the big games. -
Other than promotions and a sprinkling of cup competitions with Fiorentina and Valencia (hardly a slight on his coaching credentials), Ranieri's always been a nearly man. Runner up with Chelsea to Arsenal invincibles, runner up with Juventus and Roma to Mourinho's dominant Inter, runner up with Monaco to PSG's unlimited budget. He's had a career of doing very good, but not quite enough, and being confronted with dominant opposition. The Leicester success was a vindication of his career. To suggest he's not or hasn't been a good manager is ridiculous, even if it took a late career swansong and miracle season to finally get a title to prove it.

Would be a great move for Man U if they can get a big fee and his wages off the books.

True enough neesy. I always carried a slight podge throughout most of my life due to eating a bit too much crap, just because that's the way it was. I went to Korea and the weight fell off me despite eating what seemed like eating my body weight in fish and rice every day. Now since I've come back I find it so hard to eat well and cheap when out and about. That's not to say Korea is miles better like. They've practically obliterated their agriculture too and are playing catch up on the fast and processed food game. Plus the spices they put in everything is giving everybody stomach cancer. Intense Asian family pressure will keep them skinny for another decade though.

This is a different and much wider point but food options, and in turn people's personal diets, are often a disgrace in this country. I despair at some of the crap people throw down their necks. So many overweight people eating shit. Fast food chains, takeaways, supermarkets full of processed crap and indeed a lot of the chain restaurants. There's a serious problem in that economic processes have destroyed British agriculture, and facilitated a proliferation of large supermarkets and global chains, which combined have produced a nation that literally doesn't understand the processes of food production and thus the value of decent ingredients and a reasonable diet. My lass pisses me off sometimes, in that she's one of these obsessives for her food needing to be seasonal, locally sourced, organic and all the rest of it because that's the way it is in Switzerland. I get miffed because for one that shit can be fundamentally annoying but also because the UK, and particularly the North East, is not the land of milk and honey that her country is. Many people simply aren't well off enough to be selective about what they eat. However I'm increasingly coming around to the point that its a cultural problem more than it is simply an economic one and it really does need to change. In reference to the more specific point about chains - it's class to see many smaller independent restaurants, cafes and little food places opening up in Newcastle and surrounding areas. Lots of variety in terms of type of food and prices. It's not snobbish to avoid chains in favour of places like this if you can, especially considering the price differences are marginal and sometimes actually cheaper. Going against chains when you can is imperative for competition to produce better food standards, for the local economy as money in local businesses is more likely to stay in the region, and also simply for providing a better public consciousness of decent food.

FWIW I agree, our football has been putrid for a while and would be stunned if we did more than grind out results over this period. -

Have a day off man, when did we last score or even look like scoring 6 this season? I get they're s*** but I don't know where 6 goals would come from? i'd take 1-0 now How about the two times we won 6-0? Ok, I suppose I should have prefaced this post with, yes, I realize we did hit 6 twice earlier in the season but it was 6 months ago and we've been basically playing averagely at best since beating Leeds away and scoring 6 without Gayle is tremendously unlikely, though theoretically possible. Better? The two 6-0s were without Gayle -
Official: Yoan Gouffran signs new contract with Goztepe
ponsaelius replied to Tooj's topic in Football
Yup. Gouffran is the biggest problem, in that he's a winger that can barely do anything required of the position. Dummett is a limited fullback, but far more up to his role (at this level) than Gouffran. -
Hard to compare though. Do you also count Perez as a midfielder if you do Diame? Nolan played lots of games behind Carroll away from home in the same way those 2 have. Edit: beat me to it

Ritchie 8 Gouffran 5 Shelvey 4 Atsu 3 Diame 2 Hayden 1 23 in the league.

There's a clear sliding scale of 'being shafted'. There is to the point where it makes his job untenable, and there is the point where some promises on transfers are compromised and lack of proactive ambition becomes apparent. If it is closer to the latter, it's certainly not beyond comprehension that he would stick it out until the end of the season for the fans and then reassess his options. All I'm saying is really I'm surprised by the lack of concern in our (lack of) transfer activity, together with Rafa's press comments, the cup selection and the paper reports on Ashley - especially when you consider everything that has occurred in the last 10 years.
-
I honestly think he's been screwed over this window. He's said in every press conference that he wanted players in, how clear it was that we needed more balance and quality. And we're coming to the end of the window so far with nowt. With the reports of Ashley's attempt at re-stamping his authority, I'm personally pretty worried for the summer if/when we go up.
-
He also lost about half his wealth to the biggest divorce settlement in history.

The transfer window and this effort in the cup have shown that absolutely fuck all has changed at the club. It's been groundhog day for what is kicking on for 10 years now. Just a continually pathetic mentality from the tossers.
