I do though think that a large amount of its popularity is that it’s purchases Sunderland’s first venue like this, outside of the Seaburn Stack. It’s literally just being a selling club with a different name. It’s no different to Southampton when they sold all their best players to Liverpool, or us under Ashley where we sold anything that wasn’t nailed down, And took a crowbar to the stuff that was.

It’s against FA rules. Clubs and clubs owners & directors are forbidden to loan or gift another club any money. It goes all the way down the pyramid as well, so Newcastle United are not allowed to say give or loan North Shields any money if say they were in financial trouble.

I can’t recall hearing that, but if it’s true then it would probably only be Nike who would have been able to offer more. As much as we have history with Adidas, Nike have done very well with making both PSG and Spurs global brands.

It’s probably worth remembering that if you are a member this season, you’ll likely be consulted on the new club badge, and potentially the new stadium. I can’t see them consulting with fans outside of that, as it would be difficult to prove that they are fans of the club.

For work I’ve got to travel through Sunderland quite often, usually multiple times a day. The redevelopment is just a small bit where the brewery once was, and around the SOL, although aside from the Sheepfolds, nothing has really happened around the SOL. There is pretty much nothing being done to its high street, aside from one building, the trains station (which is getting pelters from the residents) and a Holiday Inn. Day to day, the vast majority of the residents won’t have any reason to interact with the majority of the buildings being built. It is nothing like the ‘One of the most ambitious redevelopment projects in the U.K.’ tag that the Sunderland media and residents are repeating. You know what though, it’s a shame. The high street for example is a mess. Studies show that residents of Sunderland do their non-grocery shop in higher numbers in places like Washington, Metro Centre, Newcastle, and Durham more than they do in Sunderland. Last week the residents were celebrating the fact that Tesco opened up an Express store in their town centre. Imagine not having a convenience store in your town centre in 2025, heck even North Shields has one of those small shitty ASDA’s. As it happens, Sunderland is in a position where it could feasibly knockdown a large number of buildings in it’s town centre and build a few quality mid-high rise buildings which could increase the population and create the demand for entertainment facilities, and retail. It’s on the seaside, has a University, has a decent amount of parks within it, and it is a Metro ride away from Newcastle. It by all means should be an up and coming area, and it should be making strides to look appealing to younger people, especially if they are offering affordable housing within Tyne and Wear.

It should still matter. For example Man Ut’d debt has only increased. There should be a clause that says you must pay off a percentage of your loan each year, and another that says your debt can only be your annual income multiplied by so much.

It depends how big the stadium will be. If we could have a stack like venue within the stadium itself, with it’s own turnstiles (doors for non match-days) then that would allow us to get away from rules preventing us from showing the home games in the fan zones like the Stack. I do think NUFC and other clubs should be working to at least being able to show their own games (regardless of a TV blackout or not, and regardless of it being home or away) in their own fan zones with the relevant authorities. I’m a firm believer that the new stadium should have street frontage, it’s one of my pet hates about a lot of new stadiums, including Everton’s. I think having things like a Stack that is open all year round will be one way of accomplishing this. A club shop/box office, museum entrance, maybe a restaurant or similar, and of course the main entrance should be able to give us a wrap around street footage.

Fuck it, we should just build the Champions League Starball stadium.

They got bought by the Qatari’s for soft power reasons. Qatar had been in bed with France for a while in order to gain soft power. They invested in France, Paris, and other cities, much like the Russians and UAE did in London. The French president at the time was a PSG fan, he convinced them to buy PSG. Rumour is that ideally they didn’t want a French club, there is simply no money in it, it is a farmers league, they even overpay for the TV rights through BeIN. They have been constantly rumoured to be interested in buying Leeds, and rumoured to drop PSG for teams like Liverpool etc in the past. They never saw anything in PSG, they have perhaps hit the jackpot in marketing it well though, and eventually won the Champions League which they really should have done before now considering the investment they have had.
