You expecting the ballot system to improve like?
-
It’s not SJP that you need to overlay on top of potential sites, but some of the new mega stadiums, Spurs’, SOFI, Mercedes Benz etc.
-
We already have too much of a history with our fans and horses, could you imagine the scenes if we have fans streaming out after a defeat and they drunkenly stumble across the race track? Not a hedgerow high enough for a horse to practice jumping over that would be as big as an east stander lying on the track. Bad enough having Amnesty after us, let alone PETA.
-
Yeah. It also changes dramatically if we have a removable surface. Spurs’ stadium, and Atlanta’s has shown how different sports and events can be held there easily. Who’s to say that in 10 years time, maybe if PIF bought the Newcastle Falcons, then they might be getting a decent crowd behind them and could play regularly at SJP as well. As I said earlier in the thread, if we get something like ones of stadiums, good amount of corporate facilities, and the capacity of over 70k, then we’ll leave the vast majority of clubs behind due to the income it would generate.
-
Honestly, they bought the Stack land because it was unknown what they could and couldn’t with SJP, however in the consultation for the buildings they were going to build there, it was clear that it would prevent the club from putting a level 7 on the Gallowgate. A smaller extension of the Gallowgate was possible, but not a full one. So they bought the land just incase they needed it, because if they didn’t, the club would have to move from the SJP for any meaningful expansion. The land maybe used for a rebuilt SJP, or if we go to Castle Leazes, we could build a permanent fan park there, depending on how popular it proves to be long term. The club may also sell it to developers, as it happens one of the owners is from a massive property developer family.
-
The city doesn’t own vast areas of land you know. They can help with purchasing land via CPO’s etc, but they don’t own that much land.
-
Not only that, but if we could get a 70k capacity stadium, then we’ll end up being untouchable to most clubs. The amount of income it would bring in, the amount of fans it would help create/maintain etc, it would mean that save for a 1 off really bad season, we will never finish below the likes of Sunderland, Norwich, Crystal Palace etc ever again.
-
I’m happy with it being a rebuild, but as you say, it’s likely to be an underwhelming project, with minimal capacity increases if it is SJP.
-
Nah, it would still be a tight site, but would have more room than SJP, or Castle Leazes. I have done rough size comparisons of various new build state of the art stadiums, like Spurs’, SOFI etc. The only one that has the ability to fit on Castle Leazes is Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz stadium, even then it is very tight. However that does allow us a capacity of 73,000, and that is with a reduced/semi-open stand behind one of their goals. The arena site alone should be large enough, with the additional potential to buy the buildings all the way up to Scotswood Road. You could also use the disused track bed/railways bridges to create walkway to Central station. The downsides to the Arena site is that is further away from the retail core of the city centre. It also would be worse off for public transport, with only 1 Metro station being near, potential Monument as well. It is not near the traditional bus stations though, which would have to be balanced out for late KO games.

Just do an Ashley, announce it as soon as an international break comes around. International break after this weekend.
-
It’s the staff colours. Both club shop staff, and NUFC Foundation staff are given that Green colour.
-
Yeah, inflation is to consider. However this is a state of the art stadium, and opened fairly recently. Considering all this, you would expect that it would mean that £1bn to SJP will be a bit more than a level 7 on the Gallowgate.
-
For comparison, this cost about £1bn.
-
Sounds more like a SJP rebuild to be honest.
-
It’s like trying to get a 1st story extension over your garage for an extra bedroom, and being quoted the price of a new a 5 bed on Tynemouth Broadway.
-
In all honesty, I actually think SJP Metro Station should simply be renamed ‘Newcastle United’, much like the ‘Arsenal’ station on the Underground.
-
This. In my opinion it needs to be more of a rebuild on the current site with maybe an enlarged footprint. A Gallowgate level 7 is no good. The whole stadium is dated, and we can’t get away with a capacity of 60k, with corporate facilities still lacking. I don’t see how it is possible considering the site constraints, but if it is, then yes go for it.

I don’t know who needs to know this, but the Theatre royal have a play version of the film Purely Belter (Season ticket as the book was called) on until Saturday night. Performances tomorrow, Friday night, Saturday midday, and Saturday evening. Also posted in NWOAT.

I’d also add that it was quite clear that that there were season ticket holders who have been buying an away ticket and selling them on for the past 20-30 years just to build up points, for when a cup final day ever came around. Loads of fans who had been going to all, most, or regular away games off the back of buying someone else’s, or using one of the unofficial busses who sold you a ticket if you got on their bus missed out on going to the final. We all know it was true, but no one wanted to admit. It was either ‘Yes sir, never missed a game home or away since I was 6 years old’, and ‘No sir, never bought a ticket that I shouldn’t have’.

We need Villa and others do well though, if England gets 1 of those extra Champions League places, then it will only help us in our push for a European place.
-
Yeah they were bad, there was just no real power in any of them, and since 3 of them were aimed fairly central at goal, it’s a real risk that they get saved.
-
I’ve got 0 out of 6 so far this season. Some guy on Reddit is claiming that he’s applied to every ballot since the beginning of last season, and only got the Villa match at the beginning of last season. When tickets are this tight to get, there should be no way people who are getting run of 2/3 games successes ahead of others. It really should have some sort of weighting to the ballot.
-
I’m not so sure. I have subscribed to them, but unless it’s relating to a specific development or project that I’m interested in, I usually just ignore them. They do often do them where the result, or objective is clear, and it seems to be a box ticking exercise.

There isn’t much in the way of anything in the questionnaire. It is basically asking if you use them, how often, how you get there, and if you have an allotment. There is nothing in the way for the future of the parks at all.
