  1. It's basically all financial criteria I think. Have they ever been bankrupt, have they got any fraud convictions etc? Thank you theres one bit thats interesting reading the premier league handbook rules on the test to quote now as far as I understand from reading the rules laid out there it requires a conviction in court for this to come into play but given the issues Bien Sports has with their channels just being stolen and rebroadcast from within Saudi Arabia it could cause some interesting questions from the premier league
  2. I think it was in reference to some quotes attributed to him saying that the lads were enjoying training more under the new “gaffer” why would this suprise anyone? Rafa's never exactly been loved by players respected sure but I'd imagine Bruce's training sessions are a lot more enjoyable than Rafa's. As good for the team probably not
  3. the shelvey hate also seems odd to me, he's not perfect but hes been a solid enough player for us
  4. sad thing is it really doesnt matter who's in the government of whatever country in the uks case torys or labour they still treat the likes of SA the same because they're useful with the oil.
  5. look here it is plain and simple; thus far anywhere on this forum I've seen no one saying fans shouldn't be positive and enjoy any success its just been people expressing their own personal concerns and feelings about this matter. If your over the moon and couldn't care less about what SA has done good for you but not everyone is going to share this point of view and there is nothing wrong with expressing this opinion. Bringing the USA or anything else is irrelevant to the arguement because the USA is not buying a football club Saudi Arabia is and its our one. And anyone thinking the media wouldn't be saying this if they were buying Man Utd is wrong they would probably more than here with Man Utd as one of the biggest two clubs historically in English football. Certainly some of the media would cheerfully ignore it and just write transfer stories linking them with messi whatever but guess what they'll do the exact same for us until football returns to fill pages and get clicks and it will all be complete horse shit.
  6. Just wrestling, I think. Either way, sports with fans here will have to start again based on the league and not Trump or the individual states, even if some states are doing better than others. I don't see any of the major leagues here will allow fans until a vaccine is available/the CDC says it's safe no sports and media production on a national level https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/14/us/wwe-essential-business-florida-coronavirus.html
  7. First I've heard of that in terms of adulation, also there's going to be a difference when you get taken over in league 1 compared to the PL. and the fact theres a difference between a member of the Saudi Royal Family (theres apparently 15,000 of them) and the public investment fund of Saudi Arabia, one is a private individual the other is the actual government
  8. it wasn't great and were it anyone other than rafa doing it even with the same results people would have been groaning about it imho I disagree again here. Maybe I’m a proper dullard but I enjoyed the structure of the system and you could see a very clear plan. It had been years since I’d seen us so organised and some of the movements between the forwards, especially after Rondon and Miggy arrived doesn’t just happen, you could just tell it was tactics and training ground drills. I didn't mind it personally (hell seeing a not only competent but actually good newcastle defence is amazing) but comparing it to Liverpool for example which is another fairly structured team theres no comparison. Now obviously thats not a fair comparison considering the quality difference in the players but going off Rafa's history in management he's generally favored a structured not very exciting style of football and I can't see why that would change now.

  10. I do find it curious as to why the Saudis are bothering to go into a consortium with anyone
  11. why? Poch grew spurs from being fairly rubbish to consistent champions league qualifying, champions league finalists and probably should have won the league the year leicester won it and all without massive spending and a much nicer brand of football than Rafas preferred style. Rafa was a great manager at his peak but he hasn't done anything comparable to Poch in the last 10 years
  12. just a reminder to people, theres still the possibility ashley turns around and says nah changed my mind £100m more please
  13. you can have all the systems you like the common problem is humanity itself not the systems. To lay the blame solely at capatalism or whatever else you can name is to ignore the fact theres always lot of scumbags who weasel themselves into positions of power and will try and screw everyone over for their benefit
  14. yeah thats honestly my impression of him too, still baffled as to why he decided to buy a football club when clearly he has no love of the spotlight (had anyone on here even heard of him before he bought us?)
  15. much like when this started I really don't know how I feel about this and probably won't until some footballs been played. On the one hand its good to finally have ashley on the verge of leaving, on the other the mob replacing him is one of the worst regimes on earth
  16. sorry to say get used to it because guess what football media has nothing else to talk about atm
  17. or go back to whatever he did before managing director or some other behind the scenes role without any public exposure
  18. Is anyone blaming fans? I thought we were discussing how happy or dubious we are to be owned by them. It’s essentially the same. I’d love for us to be taken over by a Geordie who made a global company and became a billionaire and can also invest in the city. It’s not going to happen though. Like I said, we are no longer in the position to question where investment comes from anymore. don't think anyone here is blaming fans I'm certainly not going to hold it against anyone who wants to be excited and not think about the moral side of this, kinda wish I could too and I might have been able to if it wasn't Saudi fucking Arabia whos almost as bad as you can get
  19. I'm not telling what anyone should think but that last line is completely untrue. We all know that the only reason they are buying Newcastle is sportswashing their image and moving the conversation to something else than their human rights situation. So it naturally is tied to what happens in Saudi Arabia. You can't just separate the two things at that point. Whether you give a s*** or not is another matter. You seem pretty convinced of the reason for purchase. Do you live next door but one to "Newcastle Fan'? really you think the sovreign wealth fund of saudi arabia is buying a football club for anything but PR reasons? You think they give half a shit about Newcastle United, the City or the clubs history? Saudi Arabia (and a lot of other oil producing dictatorships in the gulf region) have been getting into hosting sports events or buying clubs for 10-15 years and they ain't doing it purely for the love of sport (though I will grant it is no doubt a factor in some cases)
  20. A bit weird comparison. How many clubs has your royal family bought in, let's say India, for the sole purpose of improving your image? dunno I quite like the idea of the queen buying some MLS club to improve her image in the US so eventually the rebellious colonies finally return to the British Empire
  21. because theres the involvement of the literal saudi arabian government with plenty of stuff available thats horrible and evil to aim and make something up on moral grounds to stop it?
