For some reason, mainly because he did it right in front of where I sit, but Dwight Gayles going down, going up celebration will live long in the memory. Fitting that he scored our first and last goals of the 2016/17 season I think.

CHAMPIONS 3 - 0 Barnsley // Aston Villa 1 - 1 Brighton - 07/05/17 - WOOOOOOO

They have been awarded a ridiculous amount of penalties this season, quite a few of them would be classed as "soft" ones as well. We've been the polar opposite in that we've had a lot of stone wall penalty appeals not given and then when we did get a softish one against Burton the referee disallowed it anyway. Overall though I think the final league table represents a true pucture. We were the best team in the league and Brighton were 2nd best. -

The two Barnsley fans I spoke to were actually appalled by the fans that were celebrating the Brighton goal. Said the ones letting the smokebomb off were a bunch of out of control kids. I think we can relate to that element amongst our support like. Looking from the gallowgate up to the away section it seemed to be a minority that were jumping up and down in celebration. I'm in the Gallowgate as well and that's how I seen it. Looked like a couple of hundred or so nearest to where our fans were and someone at the back set off a flare and was arrested for it about 15 minutes later. He must have thought he'd gotten away with it The rest of them didn't seem too bothered about the Brighton score. In fact they seemed like a pretty boring set of fans. Just sat there in silence for most of the match. -

Not forgetting John Carver.

You don't need columns and graphs to see the lad just isn't good enough. Rarely looked like troubling the scoresheet once again yesterday.

Why should we forget about them? They've been our rivals for 125 years! The going down, going up song has been tremendous for the past few games but other than that they don't really get sung enough that much. Rivalry is one of the things that makes football what it is and what sets it apart from other sports. I find it staggering how many people on here don"t understand that. I'll take great delight if they struggle badly next season and get turned over by Burton Albion. If that offends you then tough sh*t. Agree about the banner/plane fwiw. I agree about rivalry being important in football and all that. But to me I'd rather focus on or season of achievement then theirs of plight. We can have endless amounts of laughs after this summer if we still have Rafa, he's been backed and they're struggling in the Chanpionship No reason why we can't do both. We've had a great season and their demise has been the icing on the cake.

The place will be like a ghost town man. If they were going to turn, it would have happened by now. They know that they're stuck with him because they can't afford to pay him off and a handful of irate yokels booing him isn't going to be enough for him to walk away and kiss goodbye to a few million quid pay off.

The 2016/17 season. The season that just keeps on giving
-
They might as well just open up the gates and let everyone walk in. 12 quid man. Gateshead charge more.

Agree with the majority on here. If I were a neutral I'd be more bothered about who gets relegated than in which order the 2 automatically promoted teams go up in. -

Don't think much of that but it's got the Mackems fewmin which I suppose was the point of it, so job done in that respect.
-
I'd expect nothing less from an orgaistation that thinks Gareth Southgate is a good manager. Clueless.
-
Hopefully we'll find out soon enough then.

Would have been better if he'd been pictured giving Shearer a load of abuse as that would have guaranteed the crowd turning on him. As it is, and assuming it's him, he's got a twin if it's not, he would have been at sunderlands academy back then so would have been one of the 10,000 free ticket holders for that particular match.

Newcastle United promoted back to the Premier League
Wallsendmag replied to Figures 1-0 Football's topic in Football
Suppose I would rather have a couple more Northern teams in the Premier League with us so hoping Hull stay up and Sheff Wed come up with us but as long as we're there I'm not too bothered who is up there with us. -
Did they light up Penshaw Monument to celebrate a 17th place finish or because NUFC were relegated? What a strange lot.

There's a decent chance of Barnsley getting one because the ref for our game has only refereed us twice before and has awarded 3 penalties against us, 2 of them contriversial. Likewise Brighton must have been awarded about a dozen penalties this season so I'd imagine the odds would be quite low! -

Just seen the referee is James Linington. As bad as the referees have been this season I'd still say his display down at West Brom in that FA Cup game back in 2010 is the most biased I've ever seen against us in my lifetime, although Forest away this season ran him close. Only reffed us once since then and that was this season in the 3-1 home loss to Fulham. Thought he was poor again then but they were sonmuch better than us it didn't make any difference. -

That's how I see it. Hopefully the players put in a good performance and we win the game. If the result goes for us down at Villa Park then that's the icing on the cake. -
I'm here mate. Been a long time coming this and I'm under no illusions, it'll be a hard league to get out of next season. Without investment? I hope the young lads step up. Our U23 side is in a final. They must have something. With/Without Moyes? I must be one of few who think sticking with him is the best option. He was dealt a s*** hand both at the start and throughout this season. Hasn't helped himself I admit but I think he could build something. I feel pretty apathetic towards this, pretty 'meh'. My shift change has recently allowed myself to get a season ticket again next season for the first time in four years. I'm looking forward to going to every game again and a weekend away in Leeds with some of the lads off my Sunday league team. Still my team, I'm disappointed, it's not the end of the world If you've just recently got a season ticket I'd be amazed if you'd have enough loyalty points for Leeds away. Even if you do it's £40 a ticket at Elland Road these days. Away games are cheaper in the Premier League now.

He isn't though. Just a current media darling which means his good moments are highlighted and his deficiencies are brushed over. Decent but really nothing special. Depends on what you define as special. If special is different then you'll be hard pushed to find another English keeper as good as him with the ball. His distribution skills are really good, he's easily their best passer of a ball which tells its own story. All you here is goalkeepers being critisised for being shot stoppers only, well here's one with something else to his game and it's this that makes him different....special is probably too far, but there's big interest in him due to unique skill set. He is a footballer as well as a keeper, something Pep at citeh seems to rate so highly he shipped out England's No1. You've obviously seen a lot more of him than I have. From what I have seen the hype outweighs the substance. We'll see. The Mackems are notorious for thinking their players are better than they actually are. I've thought this ever since I was pointed to a thread on RTG several years ago which ran into 40 odd pages with most of them agreeing Lorik Cana was in the top 10 midfielders in world football. I won't pretend I've seen that much of Pickford, maybe half a dozen times or so, but based on what I have seen he's got a long way to go before he's anywhere near as good as the top Keepers in the PL. Also goalkeepers are made to look better when they play for Sunderland as they are constantly kept busy. Mingolet was meant to be the next great keeper but went to a big club and has been found out.
