Cricket is a big exception to this imo. I listen to TMS a lot and I'm often quite shocked how frank some of the commentary team (not just Boycott) are, even about players they've played with and will know well. I suppose its down to national cricket being a lot more prominent than the premier club competitions. The Premier League casts a massive shadow over the national game and the sums of money involved (litigation risk?) are vast.

You won't find those in the fraternity criticise each other to the necessary degree no matter how bad things get...Souness, Allardyce, Warnock, Hughes, Ince, Di Canio et al. We will of course though see in this thread the vacuous argument that being a supporter means going to matches regardless of any circumstance and that it is even somehow admirable to actively enable those who take the p*ss out of you. Supporting through thick and thin captures a lot - being fucked over by refs, blowing your last chance at silverware or success for what you expect will be an unforeseeably long time etc... but it doesn't include funding/supporting a management structure which seeks to deny you the opportunity to even feel such nadirs/injustice or makes you ashamed of the club. I'd personally even go as far to argue its incumbent upon fans who support what I perceive to be the values of the club, to turn your back on those who seek to make it into the pathetic sponsorship vehicle it is (/becoming). Supporting your club does not exclusively occur through the emptying of your wallet into Ashley's collection sack and obsequiously watching and passively swallowing whatever they serve (reminder: if this Cisse deals go through, Shola is our owned first-choice striker), and I'd wager a lot of the fans who aren't renewing find it quite agonising to stay away. No blame but I cant understand why any fan who takes more than a passsing interest cant join the dots in seeing where their support really goes.

whats needed is a balance between the 2 extremes. I can confidently hand on heart state I would much rather be in the championship, with hungry championship players, fighting for premier league with a manager with a decent positive attitude and looking to win things. Sick of he whole situation of nothingness; balance sheets and treading water. If this is the Premier League in 2014 then fuck it. Leicester are up the road from where I grew up and I've had far more enjoyment following them attack the top of the championship and it kills me to say that.
