I've been told from my boss at work (who's last exclusive was that shola was going to Celtic last season ) that Ashley has asked him for a dossier of why it all went wrong. He'd be better at getting on the end of the balls providing and holding it up on the pitch. Don't think he'd be any less isolated than Cisse has been though. He'd be crowded out no matter how big or imposing he is; based on this seasons tactical appraisal.

It doesn't make a difference whether the fans are moaning or not. It doesn't make any difference to the club, but it makes our lives f***ing miserable. After this week I have to agree with Brett, better batten down the hatches and look forward to next season. It obviously won't be near as bad as this one. That isn't certain tbh because we don't who'll leave or not. It would take something drastic to happen to even be close to as bad as this season. I think we could lose two/three key players and we still won't be hitting 5th bottom again. This season was just a disaster all around. I feel sorry for fans if they are going into next season thinking we are going to be anywhere near as bad. The onus is on Pardew to us give a reason not to be negative. So far its been been lies and scapegoating with little in the way of concrete progress each time. My optimism will only stretch as far as my perception of success (i.e not bottom 5 at the very least) allows it to be. I expect it to be better but ultimately fear it could equally be worse.

However, since the Europa League started in it's current format 4 years ago not a single qualifying team from England has taken such a downturn in the league. We dropped 11 places. Fulham had the next worse drop when the dropped just 5 places from 2009 to 2010. Graph or no graph it's pathetic is what it is.

what defines along ball; a ball in the air? how high? from the keeper? it's going to differ from statistician to statistician. You can only go on whole game summaries to get an idea of real cohesion. Confidence, flair, creativity, tenacity, understanding; all things that can't be measured by stats. I can remember very few occasions where those qualitative terms apply. They are just as relevant as any quantitative information and imo more indicative of how good we are as a side.

My biggest worry about him starting next season is not that he won't get sacked. It will be that there won't be any decent options to replace him mid-season and we'll be throwing away another season which will have a knock on effect regarding player departures. Football is more dog-eat-dog than ever before and if you stand still or go backwards you're rife to being cherry picked by the bigger clubs. This will happen if he stays. I've no doubt about it. He needed help from the owners last summer, yes, but he is a phenomenally poor manager.
