The amount of players Wigan had bombing forward at every opportunity when I was watching MOTD was inspiring and exuded confidence in the ability of the team; the opposition were relentlessly on the back foot and you could tell the players were feeding off that. So far Pardew's rhetoric and performance showcases the exact antithesis of this approach; evoke anxiety about your own sides ability to do the basics of defending; so much so that they become obsessed with shape and cultivating a sense of fear. That sounds drastic, but the contrasts between the two approaches were stark. It may seem churlish as one of the uninitiated to the professional game to see things in such a black and white fashion; though Pardew needs to show conviction in a paradigm shift away from whatever the fuck this apparent system is. He needs to do it quickly, with a win in the next two games I reckon, if he is to see out the year.

Two games more of this shit and I think this thread will be entiely pertinent. If it were under any other owner/regime I don't think the naysayers about this thread would be so hesitant. We're being served complete rot and have been from day 1 of this season. I don't want to get rid of a manager that seemed to help us achieve a fantastic place last year. One thing is certain there needs to be a fundamental paradigm shift is this guy's approach. It will be the 1st true test of his character at this club imo.

No. I hate to say it but if I'm honest there doesn't seem to be any indication of a corner being turned from Pardew. Exacerbated by the lack of investment even further up this is an absolute nightmare. We'll make Stoke look tika-taka on Weds too now I'm sure.

I'm equally not having it that injuries are a viable cause of dictating the way we play; even if the youngsters can't cut it just yet they don't look like they are being actively encouraged to have a go. There's only Santon who seems to be reaching anywhere near the pace and tempo needed.

Well, I tend to agree with Billy in general...however I don't quite share the visceral sentiment. As a 2nd generation toon fan from the West Mids (I know billy is from around there too; there are a lot of us) who has seen both a potential league title, champions league and a relegation. I know loads of mates who support liverpool and know for sure that its because they are the best team(s). It may be harsh to to tar you with the same brush as you are a faceless web identity; but I find it hard to value opinions of people like that who have no connection to the places/clubs they follow. I find it bizarre more than anything and it does wind people who follow their local club in the same way you are being branded a glory hunter. Football is a fairly simple game like. The technicalities come from finding the right combinations of your own squad and playing to strengths. Not shoehorning players into an overcomplicated deconstruction of the opposing team. All these dossiers etc on the other team is time better spent doing something else imo.
