Any truth in him being involved in a hit & run in the last couple of days?
-
Yes but like I said the reasons for that weren’t solely down to those playing in the back four positions.
-
Don’t recall our defence being shocking. Do you not think the drop was us A losing Pope and B the reduction in our pressing game from our forwards and midfielders due to our injury situation and limited options to rotate?
-
Didn’t catch the game but have JDT vibes/hopes. JDT never really recovered from first 60 seconds of the opening game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday when he missed that 1 on 1. I agree if he gets an early chance/goal he’ll have a positive season.

This was in reference to Guehi… as it’s the Guehi thread 😬

10-15 years time maybe. They are doing a fine job. Remember being associated with Saudi isn’t always an easy sell to sponsors annd advertisers. Think the main gauge is the stadium plans.

Am I right in thinking buying in January is no different if buying this month? All counts as the same cycle?
-
No I wouldn’t disagree about scraping into the top 3. Think Stones, Pickford and Palmer would’ve pipped him but I’d say it’s fair to say he made it into top five. Top three if you give him the allowance he was a relative novice. However you flip that and if you put it to a vote England to a man were awful including their manager. So I think you’d agree also the bar was set very low for him to stand out?

You can totally understand Palace’s point of view as they will rightly embrace the UK press narrative of the tournament and want top dollar (£65m) Truth is he wasn’t the best player nor even the best centre half (thought Stones had the best tournament of the defenders). So it depends which side of the fence you sit on. I still feel we value him at £52m max and if we get desperate add ons for £55. Going to be a fascinating last 3wks to the window as we play cat and mouse with our fairly limited budget it seems chasing two positions possibly.

Download the NUFC app and watch for free no?

I appreciate its still new and shiny but even still I did think when I heard the capacity was only 3k it sounded way too small…

This. Obviously I want them nowhere near EH so that maybe clouds my thinking but ultimately if they don’t give it to Carsley FT what’s the whole point in ST Georges Park etc. Also I don’t think EH’s strengths are what are needed at international level. Not saying he wouldn’t do a decent job but you could equally find him looking as stubborn as Southgate in his selections once he gets sucked into the FA culture.

Sensible choice for the interim. Think they’ve only a couple of pretty meaningless games until 2025. Whats the rush?
-
Maybe Emerton and Barnetta are the half time guests
-
I agree with most of that. Where I would question only slightly is Gabriel (He’s still good so I guess he makes the list but Saliba makes him look better than he is IMO). Van de Ven is very fast but I’m not sure he’s great at defending but it’s only been one season so happy to leave the jury out on that one. I’m pleasantly surprised you had no mention of VdV partner Romero. Not wanting to speak for you but do you also agree he’s massively overrated by Spurs fans? I think he’s absolutely headless and slow. Tough/dirty I get but honestly think he’s a liability.

With the rules as they are selling youth products and our older purples to buy younger newer purples but hopefully in a more sensible and strategic approach than Chelsea. In reality if we can navigate this season and continue our growth off the pitch if we keep buying smart we should only need 1-2 players a season which I think would suite EH also.
-
Why do you think that? They’ve 20k seats to sell and even more £ via NUFCTV.
-
You said “Who cares if we pay over the odds, it’s not your life savings they’re spending” I’ve explained why I disagree and how it effects the club & fans. I’ll leave it there.
-
I know. I do get both sides of the fence. Would be great not to have to think about it when building a team. I’m guessing the Cartel fans spend a lot less time factoring it into their potential signings. On the other hand I’ve always seen it as our (fans) money to an extent and especially now when it has knock on effect that it probably forces clubs to hike prices for fans they probably previously may of been less ruthless about. So the smarter we are with our signings (and sales) the better for the club and fans it’s self. You are still missing the point. The days of saying it doesn’t matter how much we spend on a player if its the one we want are as it stands over. So I may not “worry” what we spend it is highly important as I’ve explained above.
-
It’s never a waste of time as it just moves to the next window ultimately. Just different positions.
-
Yes but making offers is one thing and what the other clubs will let them go for or buy from you is not the same No expert can go into a window and say for arguement sake and the fact it was muted we’ve £100m to spend… We’ll have Guehi for £50m and Neto for £50m thanks very much whilst also thinking and we will sell Miggy for £30m thanks very much to help with January window. Yes they will know how much we can spend but you’ve just proven my point it does matter we get the lowest fee possible rather than the pay whatever it takes (it’s not our money) approach.
-
I kinda agree with point 1. Definitely with point 2 and 4. However you’ve repeated point 3 a few times and sadly that is no longer the case. It effects what we can do for the rest of this window and following windows sadly unless they scrap the PSR rules.
-
Spurs fans seemed to of had enough of him. I’ve noticed when watching him he seems to down tools quick when the game not going his way. Had a good impact but once coaches have watched him I think he’s been fairly easy to nullify and as others have confirmed he’s not very quick so doesn’t have that in is locker as a plan b. Would be very disappointed if we signed him.

I also think the reason for the slow progress is the Palace ownership structure. It’s an open secret nobody really knows who owns them being linked with Delaware and their main USA shareholders and the only name we know of other than Parish (John Textor) was recently wanting to sell up and get involved in Everton. So with a lot of secrecy/laundering/timing involved its probably a bit of a nightmare. Remember when I flagged up on here about two weeks later that Olise hadn’t been confirmed after it was assumed it was done. I think there are a lot of interested parties and different lawyers involved with anything involving Palace.
