I don't think anyone should tbh.
  2. How dare you! We'll have none of that talk round here! It is good news though, he's saying and doing mostly the right things just now, hope it continues. Saying and doing mostly the right things in July Before the season starts, innit? Are we entirely past the point of giving credit for positive moves now? There is always a loop hole with Pardew don't forget, this couldn't have been his idea. Positive signing = Carr's work of genius.
  3. set piece coach to come in next and you could call it a successful summer...
  4. I don't think HBA is too much of a problem if we get him back to full fitness, think he's been unlucky with injuries since arriving rather than being a crock. I do think Marv seems to have bigger issues fitness/injury wise however. Agree that if we keep the core of our main players fit for majority of season, we will go very well.
  5. I fancied Coutinho but i thought he was overpriced being put in amongst the best in the league. Thought he would have been slightly cheaper.
  6. If we get beat tonight should be a canny little meltdown on here with the rally calls for a must win.
  7. Should have poached Chelsea's physio

Surely the sides should be the other way around?
  9. If people don't want Gouff as a wide forward, where do they want him to play next season? Am i correctly assuming majority would like to see him on the bench? Personally thought he did a decent enough job as a wide forward, wasn’t expecting anything spectacular but thought he adapted well to the role. His work rate was exceptional, chipped in with a couple of goals but would expect him to score more this season.
  10. Arsenal fans watching Fab and RVP for Manure.
  11. Potential to be top draw however once again the price tag is just silly.
  12. Laudrup does have the odd blip on there, but it still brings a lot of class. Think the majority of managers wouldn't have a CV without a poor show, here or there. I'm still waiting for Merlin to fill me in on Pochettino's managerial CV. Must still be listing his achievements... Stop posting man You have no idea what you are talking about. Do you want to fill me in on his epic Espanyol time and his sizzling start at Southampton Feli?
  13. That's a shame. If the likes of Villa and West Ham were in for him then we definitely should have been too.

    Alan Pardew

Damn. It's changed People realising i've jinxed Pards far too much today. Lumping on the no option.

  16. Never. He doesn't have a defensive mindset. I mean in the Viera sense. Not a standard DM but a mobile holding midfielder with license to break. I agree with you that he doesn't seem that defensive. I mentioned this a while back and got slaughtered for it...good luck
  17. I hate how ever single time the blokes speaks, we scrutinise every single word he comes out with. Worse than the bastard press. He'll say 3 good points then one bad point then everyone will rather jump on the bad rather than look at the 3 good points. Such negativity, no wonder people feel like given up hope with there attitudes. I'm under no illusion Pardew pulls out the strangest tactics and team selections, none worse than Liverpool when that was probably the lowest i felt in a long time and that was before the ball kicked off. I really thought we could have beaten them on way up to town, few beers, looking forward to the match then team news arrives, felt sick. So yeah i know Pardew isn't without flaws but i really do think the hatred is way over the top before we've even kicked a ball for a pre-season friendly yet.
  18. Fergie regarding Phil Jones ''I have no idea where his best position is. He could play anywhere on the pitch" Implying Phil Jones can play well in multiple positions, in different formations that suit his team. Compare that to Pardew who played Sissoko in only one position he clearly wasn't suited to, in a formation the team wasn't suited too. And Pardew hasn't a clue which position Sissoko could play well in. Back of the net, 1-0 to me So we've gathered that he's played out wide in the past, defensive midfield, box to box and behind striker. I think it's plain to see why Pards isn't sure of his best position when he hasn't had a settled role in sides his played in. Nothing wrong in working on during pre-season and training. He seen strengths and weaknesses over past 6 months of his game which we all did and he's got time to prepare that to see where he best fits into the system he opts to go for. People just shooting Pardew down at any given quote.

  20. Pochettino came into a new league, couldn't speak the language and didn't have anything LIKE the budget Pardew had in January ; he took over from a manager who was popular with the fans and won them over by playing decent football - far better than that displayed by Pardew's teams. How you can say he has achieved f - all is beyond me...I notice you conveniently avoided talking about Laudrup...! I said we most people would probably take 2 of the managers, so Hughton doesn't count ; I thought that would be obvious. Also obvious is Pardew's previous CVs.....you seem quite prepared to view all that as an aberration and his one decent season with us(even though the football was largely poor)as a demo of his real ability. Sorry - I'm not buying that and I reckon most other fans won't either. Yes i avoided him because i actually do like Laudrup. And i would love him. However you say it's beyond you how i think Pochettino has achieved fuck all in his managerial career to date so i wouldn't mind a list of his achievements? He's having his spending spree now which Pards had in January, fair enough. I question his first crazy fee signing by the way and I think Southampton may struggle so you can take my word on this when they are flying high. You can say wasn't pretty football when finishing 5th, it was a fluke, games went this way, should have went that way, injuries were non-existent, we were under a false illusion, make all the theories you like, but we finished 5th which was a fantastic achievement all things considered. And forever that was fantastic season the following season turned out to be hell. So the forthcoming season is basically for me where Pardew's judgement days really lie. Has he got the bottle/desire and simply the managerial ability to get our quality players back on track and the confidence re-built which it was solely founded in our season when we finished 5th? I think given the core of players at his disposal, he will get us back fighting up the top half of the league again.
  21. I thought he meant he would play. Cisse Gouff Sissoko Ben Arfa Tiote Cabaye But who would come out of Tiote/Cabaye if he was to play Sissoko in the middle and if say Marv was to play in his no10.?

If you include Ian's 'step 3'...

What does that even mean? You mean the people who didn't rate his managerial record, disliked his style of football and saw it as completely unsustainable and inevitably saw his shortcomings brought to light. Proper "hipster" that, judging someone on their managerial ability Well im guessing we all pretty much looked in disgust when Pardew was announced and he admitted himself he had the fans to win over. He won me over and a fair few more but you still had that certain section that even after a 5th place finish wasn't good enough and we were still s*** and Pardew needed to go, so you're never going to win them ones over. However the people who enjoyed the success of a 5th place finished, looked forward to Europe and generally felt excited to push on but only to be let down by a horrific season, now seemingly hate Pardew again like he first arrived. Those are the fans that i'm not sure will fall in the same trap again if he does have another successful season. Holding hands up and saying Pards has done well for a second time isn't something i can see fans doing easily. Yeha and it was justified, he'd done nothing that suggested he had the CV to take this job. Even in the 5th place there were many people saying it was not going to last, criticising the style of play etc. We got by on some fantastic individual performances. There were rare occasions that w played good football, the WBA away and that mini run, Stoke at home etc. But they were few and far between. Last season has written him off in my eyes, it was so mind bogglingly bad, I just can't see a recovery. Yes you are right about his CV hence why i said everyone was disgusted. I'm now looking at the fact he's giving me the joy of a 5th place finish which i loved, walking out of SJP heading to the pub thinking of Champions League football being a possibility. Then he had a season where i skipped the pub on numerous occasions to go home and sulk but gave me a few hangovers at work on a Friday from decent Europe displays. I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table next season but i'm confident i'll be going to the pub celebrating and not heading home all doom and gloom.
