Fantastic performance from Gordon all tournament

Give the ball to Gordon, Jones, you little snake

Gordon’s going to be our new Jonas when it comes to winning fouls
-
Gordon’s position is clearly going to be pretty fluid. Whereas Barnes would almost certainly play left wing the majority of the time he’s on the pitch. We could see Gordon on the right, switching to the left, playing as a wide forward. It’s really hard to know what lies ahead with him but I think we can be pretty confident Howe will make it work

Looked stonewall, not a lot of contact but any contact through the back of someone in the penalty area is a pen really. Goooooooaaaallllllll

Enjoyable game this, really open

Lovely tracking back. Just pulled off a Longstaff, thanks to Howe

As it stands, in terms of creativity we have ASM who is an outstanding dribbler if not an outstanding passer / chance creator. We have Bruno who is an elite passer, especially along the ground with through balls. Trippier and Tonali are both excellent at crossing and lofted balls. I’d say if we were to lose ASM then we’d be sorely a dribbler in the side. Willock is an amazing ball carrier but not dribbler. Gordon isn’t a dribbler so we do need either ASM or someone with that quality as we can’t just rely on Isak to do it as we need him scoring goals

Trying to build up their identity to the point they have enough confidence to go on The Apprentice

Diabolical without any context
-
Should have loaned him to Hearts, gutted

“This is my opinion, I’m sure Eddie agrees with me”

Can we get @TBG in to confirm?

ASM and Sissoko are about as different as you can get. One is all out attacking flair and dribbling. While the other was an appalling dribbler even though he was physically strong on the ball and a great athlete so he could carry well without ever beating someone with skill. Sissoko’s main attribute was linking play, something which ASM struggles with. I’d take ASM every single day over a Sissoko

Impressive as fuck those stats
-
I must have missed that, I feel like I’ve only ever seen him on the left and then cutting inside when he gets close to the goal to get shots off
-
I’m sure there must be a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes to do with a LB. It’s the clearest position to upgrade given we have barely any tactical options there. We either have Burn who’s solid defensively but terrible at carrying the ball and completely unsuited to making deep runs. Or, Targett who’s good defensively and will make overlapping runs and put in good crosses but again can’t carry the ball. I’d be genuinely amazed if we aren’t looking at players who can both bring the ball forward comfortably and also make deep overlapping runs
-
Apart from Tierney, which has gone cold, who else have we been solidly linked with at LB?

Partly true, I think Gordon has more room for development and will be able to play across several positions. Barnes is solidly a left winger and I can’t really see that changing. However, Eddie’s number one priority is coaching players so I guess he’s identified areas he thinks he could improve Barnes’ game. When it comes to transfers, I imagine there’s a ton of focus on data and then bringing that to Howe for him to consider how developing weaker areas will feed into a larger longer term team unit
