IYO, i'd put them equally. a player like debuchy could massivly alter the way we play for the better. however so would a player for that role in a middle 3, cover for when cabaye or tiote or out etc. Debuchy would be an immediate and significant upgrade on the obvious weak link in our team for a reasonable price. Anita is another option for a position where we are pretty well covered imo, especially as its unclear how often we will play 4-3-3.
-
€8m would have sealed the Debuchy deal, which was far more important than this one.
-
In terms of current ability yes there's a gap, but I think Clyne is going to go on to be really good. He's got talent in pretty much every area of his game. I would be happy with Clyne if we are unable to get Debuchy. I agree he has potential, but we need more than potential for a position in the first XI imo.

iandovaston @skydovaston #NUFC fans should watch out for possibilty of CP's Nathaniel Clyne coming in to replace Danny Simpson. Pretty big step down from Debuchy IMO.

Not sure whether to put this here or in the Debuchy thread. Anthony Wright @AnthonySAF Davide Santon has rejected ideas he is about to swap #nufc for #asroma and says Pardew has told him he wants to play him on right next year Santon: "Whether it's Debuchy or whoever, if he's a good player he can help the team. Then we'll see who the coach decides to pick..." #nufc Santon: "At the end of last year Pardew said his intention was to play me on the right, even if another full back arrives" #nufc Santon: "Roma were interested recently but Newcastle quickly refused to sell me. I'm settled in England + have no intention of moving" #nufc

Definitely think 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 is the most attractive option when all our players are fit. Wonder if Benjamin Corgnet is lined up as the third midfielder in a potential 4-3-3 for next season?

Marveaux is well known in France for his work rate. He defends more than Hatem. Has Marveaux ever played on the right? sylvain is a complete footballer who can play as playmaker, off the striker and on the left. With Rennes, he had a free role in the front. I never see him play specifically on the right. He also works and runs a lot during a match. Thanks . In that case, playing Marveaux on the left and Jonas on the right is probably best IMO. Jonas can also provide important defensive qualities to help the weakest side of our defence there (assuming Santon slots in comfortably at left back).

Some questions for you : Don't you think NUFC will be a better team with Ben Arfa and Marveaux in the start 11, even if Best, Ba, Jonas and Obertan played very well since the start of the season ? Don't you think the presence of HBA behind them will give Ba or Best more occasions to score and chances to become better than they actually are ? It's really a question of team/individual morale rather than quality. Most agree that HBA,Marveaux and Santon will improve the team when they start, but is it right to change a winning team straight away and show a lack of faith in players who have been generally successful so far? Maybe it is better to introduce them gradually, although I tend to think that as our next fixture is difficult we really need to be looking to play something close to our best "on paper" XI. It's also important to remember, that Obertan and Best are widely considered to be confidence players who thrive on the support of a manager who has faith in them.

Important selection decisions for Pardew to make here. As others have said, this game should give us a pretty good indication of our prospects for the season. Personally, I would include at least two of Santon/Marveaux/HBA, but can understand the arguments against changing a winning team. Has Marveaux played much on the right during his career so far? Would definitely prefer him to Obertan, but Pardew seems not to rate him so highly.. Would also drop Simpson instead of Raylor. Very poor so far this season, and stands out as an obvious weak link even more than Raylor IMO (although that might be more because of the defensive abilities of Jonas).

1203: Papiss Demba Cisse's agent says the Senegalese will not be leaving Bundesliga side Freiburg during the transfer window. Fulham, Sunderland and Newcastle United have been linked with a move. "Nobody was ready to pay the sum - that was the only problem," Guido Nicolai told BBC Africa Sport.

Will be gutted if we miss out on Cisse for the sake of a few million and end up with Macheda on loan. Can easily see it happening though.
