I would be devastated if we spent even 5 million on him. Football really is fucked if he's going for that. You obviously aren't aware of the transformative effect he had on us. He was phenomenal for us last year. In fact, his arrival was just as influential as grealish returning on us winning ten in a row and getting promoted. He's brilliant on the ball, brings it out of defence superbly, never resorts to hoofing it, almost always completes his pass (and I am not talking about to someone stood five yards from him), commanding in the air, and it was his leadership that changed our defence from being a mid table comedic mess to one that barely conceded for a large chunk of the season. Rondon for 30m would be worth it. 16m is a steal. There is always the flip side of that of course when the likes of Joselu cost 5m. Regardless, Villa are investing in their squad and showing ambition and a desire to pay whatever they can afford for players they rate. If that means 20m + for Mings when you get 5 times that just by being in the league, it’s all relative anyway! Always listen to the fans of the other teams rather than the media bollocks, they know their club and players better than anyone. If the fans are happy and think it's a decent deal then it probably is.

Do we have any other kind of preseason? Even when we were fairly stable on the management side we still managed to have players that couldn't travel because of unpaid dental bills and others stranded in far off climes. We're a shambles but we're a consistent shambles.

Doesn't sound like the PL at all to me. The way I read it is that there's a sticking point in the negotiations, both sides have given ground and are getting closer but they're not quite there yet and maybe can't agree a deal.

Obviously struggle for goals mind Aye, I agree our defence is decent (although how much of that was down to Rafa remains to be seen) but just going back through previous seasons just a decent defence isn't usually enough to save you if your attack is toothless. If you're in the bottom 3 for goals scored it's about a 60% chance of relegation (about 65% if you're bottom three for goals conceded). Considering our current squad managed a whopping 16 goals between them (14 if Hayden and Longstaff leave), it's not looking great without significant investment. 2018/19 we had the seventh best defence in the league and the 16th best attack. Our two top scorers from that 16th best attack have left and the tactician generally credited with getting us organised and hard to beat has left. I reckon we're bollixed personally.

Great, I was just thinking we could use another keeper. Let's have a look at some centre backs too, really sort out the deficiencies in our squad.

For me, no matter the rights or wrongs of his past or how he got himself into the position he's in, he's just too much of a polarising figure to be at the front of any campaign against Ashley. His presence will turn off too many people. We ideally need someone on board who the whole fanbase can rally around and unite behind. Too much to ask for Shearer or Nobby or someone universally loved to get involved and gee things up I suppose.
