    James Perch

100% true. He is way too small to be a CB, would be killed in the air just like he was earlier in the season. Williamson IS the only option right now. is he not actually taller than Colocinni???? No. Looked it up he's only 4 centimetres smaller than Colo or an inch and a half in old money. Perch is 6 feet tall, Jamie Carragher for example is 5 foot 11 Perch is 5ft 11. BBC Says he's 1.8M which is 180cm. A 30 cm ruler is 1 foot so therefore 6 x 30cm = 6 feet. 6ft =/= 180cm. 1 foot is equal to approximately 29.2cm. A 0.8cm may not seem like much but then it adds up. 5'11 is correct. If he's 5' 11'' then using 29.2cm per foot it makes him 172.8cm, not 180cm. 180cm is over 6 foot using 29.2cm per foot. edit: Right, sorted. Google reckons there's 30.48cm in a foot which makes everything add up
  3. I always kind of think that the penalty thing might be the ref trying not to seem like a 'homer' at SJP. edit: except Phil Dowd, he seems to like us
  4. It's good if we can start getting a reputation around europe as a decent club for young, promising players to move to. Fair enough, we might not keep them for too long but we'll get a few good seasons out of them, keep us ticking over financially and hopefully allow us to progress and push on.

I'm not gonna judge the lad for doing some stupid things, it's what young men do and i'm pretty sure we we've all done a few things we regret in the bloom of youth. In terms of his future as a footballer, he just doesn't have one at this club. You can only forgive so much and it's clear that his attitude isn't right here. Maybe at a new club he'll sort himself out and I wish him luck but this isn't the club for him.

That looks like it should be found on a bar between the Guiness and Carling taps. My first thought was Ann Summers.
  7. Fuck, this is gonna be the first game I watch in China, must win. :frantic:

So, Newcastle might score, Norwich might not lose and we're not going to get a champions league spot. Thanks Lawro, great insight you carpet faced mug. He could have at least done us a favour and tipped us to lose.
  11. All this good news is a bit unnerving. I feel like i'll wake up tomorrow and read that he's renamed the club 'Mackem Utd ftm lol' and we'll be playing next season in the romanian 3rd division.
  12. He's ok for what he is and that's a starter for a championship / bottom end premiership team or a reliable backup for a midtable prem team but nothing more. He's just too limited in what he can offer a side in that he can't really help attacks much because his crossing technique and passing range is poor but he can do a job defensively provided he has decent defenders and a good, capable right midfielder around him. I'd love to see Santon start at right back with Ferguson tried out at left back but I can't see that happening so until we buy a quality left back or right back then he's what we have.

    Alan Pardew

I have the 4-4 with Arsenal from last season on my hard disk and i've watched it quite a few times (it's brilliant to watch if you're, erm, relaxing with some, um, plant based recreation). The thing that always strikes me is that he never seemed to sprint. We would get the ball back near our box or in the midfield and he'd just kind of set off at a jog like an ocean liner starting it's voyage knowing a plane would be arriving at the same time. The ball gets knocked around a bit and by the time it's played up into the danger area his stately jog has taken him right where he needs to be every time. He never busts a gut, he just jogs to where the ball will be in 45 - 90 seconds time, it's uncanny. The difference now is that Cabaye is not moving forward like that, he tends to stay in position when the ball is moving forward so when it breaks or is knocked down he's not there.

    Alan Pardew

He's not, he's starting the Houghton debate.
  15. I wonder if Jonas will turn into SuperJonas when Marveaux is fit again.

If we're going to play anybody in the role just off the strikers then we need to pass the ball through midfield. I don't think the 'number 10' can really work with balls launched front to back, they need it played into feet where they can make some space and bring the strikers and wing backs into play. If we're going to play the ball up to the frontmen off an orbiting satellite as we have been then we're better off just deploying two wingers rather than a number 10.

Wa I think we are training too much on the defensive part of the game, would fit into Pardew's philosophy etc. this is why.... “Every Monday he [Pardew] comes into work having compiled a defensive report on the opposition. That’s his project, working with our video analysts to provide players with the best information. “This week, for example, he will talk about Manchester City’s angles of attack, their set-pieces, their movement, as well as focussing on individuals. The lads will be made aware of Dzeko’s strengths and weaknesses, the best way to nullify Silva, Milner’s incredible work-rate, everything. “That takes care of Monday to Thursday. On Friday it’s my turn when we look at ways to get at opponents. Put simply, Alan concentrates on how not to lose and I then find ways to win.” scary sh1t http://www.nufcblog.org/2011/11/carver-on-pardew-and-the-way-newcastle-run-their-week/#.T16UKc5Gxok Wait, monday - thursday is defence and nullifying the opposition and friday is attacking? So 80% of our training schedule is defending and working on how not to lose? Shocking if true.
  18. Gonna get sold to QPR for £500k for not using the 'official' stadium name.
  19. Why would you spend 15 seasons (or whatever it is) sitting on the bench and then leave to get games just before you're retiring?
  20. No manager is going to succeed at that club until Lampard, Terry, Cole and Drogba are gone. With the possible exception of Cole, these players cant accept that they're over the hill and are no longer good enough for a starting place in a top 4 side, their egos simply wont allow it. Once they piss off then a manager can come in and revive Chelsea but until then they're screwed.
  21. I hope that's not sarcasm, Ian, or you'll be getting some 'special attention'

So in a 297 word article about our game we get 25 words. And two of them were 'Alan Pardew'.
  23. Amortisation is based on the value at the end of an intangible asset's life. In the case of a player's registration, that is worth zero because the player can leave on a free. If you take a physical asset costing £10m which could be scrapped for £2m and had a life of 4 years- then you would count £2m depreciation (more or less same thing, but for tangible assets) per year until it was worth its scrap value at the end of its life. It is simply a way of allocating costs over long periods. If a company spent £100m on new kit that would bring them huge revenues over 10 years- why should they suffer a huge loss in the year they bought it? This method ensures that costs and benefits are fairly allocated. This is also not what a player is worth- its just what is on the books. We're at liberty to sell a player for more or less- it's purely an accounting methodology. Fair enough if we're talking about equipment and vehicles etc but it barely relates to the value of a footballer if at all.
  24. Amortisation seems stupid. If I sign £10m in cash for £10m on a four year deal it'll only be worth £5m after two years. We should get players for nothing then cos a £10m player will cost us £20m over four years not including wages. 2 years into a 4 year deal Cabaye is only worth £2.5m according to this weird accountant voodoo? He'd be worth more than that if he only had one leg. Or maybe I just dont get it
