Correct decision. That should never be a red. Parades instigated the handbags pushed his face in and then went down like a bag of shite. I get by the letter of the law it should be red but if we can move forward from that in future decisions the game will be better for it.

I’m a bit bored of pundits, dinosaur managers and Jordan Henderson types calling for VAR to be scrapped mind. I think people have rose tinted glasses of how it was before. I’ve got no interest at all of going back to getting royally fucked over by blatantly wrong decisions. I’ve seen the “it evens itself out over the season” phrase rolled out a couple of times recently. It didn’t. It favoured certain clubs at certain points. The offside rule needs amending to be up to date with the tech and refs should be making decisions via the screens. Removing it seems like a massive backward step to me.

The problem I’ve got is people have an agenda with him even when faced with improvement. He’s improved since last year but he’s still got a long way to go. It’s good to see numbers backing up what a lot of people thought. Hopefully it continues.

But the point is, was it a clear and obvious error? I don’t know if there’s a difference between that and ‘was it right or wrong’, that’s quite a difficult semantic question. But I guess there’s supposed to be. When he looks at the screen, I guess he should ask ‘was it reasonable that I decided it wasn’t a penalty?’. He’s not meant to be redoing the decision as such. I see your point actually. Although, for me, a ref going to a screen and potentially redoing the decision is the way to go. I’d take that over how VAR has previously been implemented.

What are the commentators blathering on about? This is exactly what we wanted. The ref went to the screen and made a decision.
