It’d be interesting if English football were to develop a model like in Spain or Germany where reserve sides compete in the same pyramid. Much prefer a “Newcastle United B” cutting about in League Two to PIF buying Montpellier and making them our whipping boy. With obvious constraints so that Chelsea can’t squirrel away PL-quality talent in their reserve side and beat the piss out of lower league sides.
