So this game has been a real barnstormer then?

Am I the only one who doesn't think their squad is really that great? A lot of money spent on shell players.

I find that very hard to believe. Middlesbrough won it 10 years back. Why would I want to end a 5 decade drought with that? No thanks. It's indicative of ambition. Which is something this club lacks from top to bottom. And that won't change, so why bother? The ambition would be great but ending the drought with a LC win would feel a massive anticlimax. Why does that have to be the climax? Surely a team that shows enough ambition to compete for a cup isn't suddenly going to lie down and settle for mediocrity. Any club that doesn't come out and say, "Our goal is to win football matches and be the best club we possibly can be," is utterly pointless, even if the club has no realistic chance of achieving those goals. What's the point of even playing the game if not to succeed?

Probably not a popular opinion, but I think a Great Britain, rather than England, tournament would be pretty great. Have venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, etc. Could also pull attention away from London, where you'd probably be looking at 4-5 venues if it was restricted to English cities.

They no longer rotate by confederations though. There's too much money to be made from a U.S.-held tournament for FIFA to avoid it for too long.

That would be the best outcome (no idea how the hell they didn't get it in the first place, obviously didn't learn their lesson about greasing the right wheels after the 2016 Olympics fiasco). Football was dead there when they got it in 1994 and they still set the attendance record. Imagine how much better it will be in 2022 with the sport very much established over there. Still pissed about this. Could literally walk out my front door and be surrounded by Olympic events but we fucked it up. We had our fucking A-team up-to-bat for it too. Obama, Oprah, MJ, and Phelps.
