If we don't sign a top centre half this window then I'll struggle to judge the window as anything other than a failure.

Unfortunately FIFA have no say over the rules of the PL and UEFA. any sponsorship from Saudi will be assessed as FMV.

Piece in the athletic about Suds. Gopaladesikan’s appointment was led by Paul Mitchell, the sporting director who left in May, having been in position for less than a year. His intention had been to build up a football department that bore a resemblance to Liverpool’s model with Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

I'm guessing a budget is assigned to the target with the goal of obviously getting them cheaper. Then negotiations likely carried out by Eales with the assistance of Eddie Nickson and Andy Howe. I'm assuming our ownerships are leveraged when appropriate

edit. 7am pre coffee isn't the time be posting

Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

NO told me Liverpool were interested and only got him to spite us -
they are waiting to mug some off for Elliot.

Ahhh Pulling the plug on Trafford was the correct decision at the time imo. isak contract shouldn't have any impact on what we do today. Oversaw no signings is an interesting one as it Appears the option was to massively overpay for Elanga or Guehi. Don't get me wrong I think he wasn't the right fit, our club is obviously a bit more complex than most due to the power dynamics but he also had some positive. Getting good money for Miggy and Almiron were both creditable imo.

Eddie is the bastion of truth and honest and has never been economical with the truth. And again back to my point. Mitchell either had a 12 month contract or he worked a notice period. Somebody knew he was gone in advance of when it was announced
-
What an uninspiring window this would be.
-
Where as I do think these targets are Eddie's preference I don't think our failures this windows are down to him. I think it's too much to ask for him to be abreast of everything. In this psr world just buying players without considering the accounting is obviously suicide.
-
So you think no one at the club had any idea he was leaving and he didn't have a notice period of he had a one year contract? Not defending Mitchell btw it's evident he wasn't right fit but I do think we are pursuing a transfer policy which he called not fit for purpose right or wrong. And to me, the logical conclusion is he lost the battle for power and influence and was binned/walked as a result.

Yeah maybe, but that's not the point here. And we obviously didn't give BDB a 5 year deal when we bought him. It's we sign him to a short deal 2-3 and the deal becomes really expensive over that period OR. We give him a 5 year deal which represents a financial risk as he may go Rashford on us and put the old feet up as he's made it.
-
So much risk involved handing out 5 year contracts to someone of that age. You are right though, the deal only becomes worth it accounting terms if the contract is long. I know people are saying just flip to Saudi IJ 2 years but even that represents a large degree of risk given we haven't had any favours from the Pro league to date and who's to say they don't actually just give upon that giant money sink as they have done with other such projects
-
Thanks for posting this. I actually doubt it be a 5 year I imagine it will wither be a 3 year deal or a 2±1 which will obviously make this even more expensive in amortization.
-
If we don't get Trafford we don't get a keeper at all imo. 35m for a CB and a cm ain't getting us much either.
-
Canny player and at 30m is decent value.
-
Geordie Journos saying Chevallier is a none starter as the deal is too expensive for us.
-
Forests ceiling is much higher than where they finished. Spurs have a lot more potential than that. Also spurs will pay him a lot more.
-
On a personal level no, absolutely not. If folks are wanting hold him to account id expect some though.

Why do we hate this guy again?

Without doubt. 50m for a guy who's 29 and no European football experience plus off to AFCON is crazy
