Let's see how it plays out. I expected hed stay this season and be off next summer. I really didn't expect a market for him to exist this year. I'll still clinge to be right as Liverpool didn't actually bid But other than that, it's a matter of time imo. He knows he's got the ability to be challenging for the highest honours, meanwhile we are quite a distant from doing so and I don't think we will win a Cl Or league trophy before Alex retires

I've got absolutely no doubt we aren't letting Eddie create budgets per player, that would be mad. But I don't think we are particularly cheap. We've spent big money and continue to do so. The only ones that out spend us are those cartel clubs.

Thanks for sharing this, I don't think it's plausible that Mitchell handed in an 8 months notice and Eddie didn't know. I do agree about the massive vacuum though, I do think a lot of issues we face are down to poor coordination and a lack of trust though.

Pre-season (2026/27): NUFC to play Everton at Murrayfield on 12/08/26

Thursday is what I heard/read. -
I wouldn't describe any of Wood Kelly or targett as working out mind. Your overall point is correct though.

Trafford was rightly a none starter as soon as we did our PSR fiddle. The reporting on the Isak contract seems to be muddy, and it wouldn't be unusual to not offer a contract with 4 years left. Also I'm not sure why that impinges on our ability to offer him a contract now. Regardless of all of this he clearly wasn't the right fit for us, but it does feel like a right fit for that role won't be easy to find.
-
We blaming Mitchell for that? 40m of goal keeper in one window where the other signing is Orsula would have been a choice
-
I dont know what to make of it ed. I look at the players we've chased and they all look like the profile of player Eddie likes (nothing wrong with that for those folk who will take offence) this begs the question what more could we have done? Now given the nature of the targets and fees banded around, they all kinda look like the type of signings Mitchell described as not fit for purposes. So obviously we speak about Eddie not being supported but on the face of it, these are likely his targets and also profile in a manner which the now departed SD called not fit for purposes. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist...
-
Yeah it probably was given nobody was seemingly expecting it, but this doesn't answer my question. He left because his contract was up? We only gave him a year? He didn't have a notice period? It's funny how it some quarters this is all Mitchell's fault yet so many questions are to be asked about it. (Im not defending Mitchell btw) I just don't buy the stated reason he left/ was binned.
-
So what do we infer from this? Mitchell joined on a one year contract? His contract had an extremely short notice period? It just doesn't add up
-
The other side of this is, if these are the managers targets we have to try and get them. Eddie does deserve his targets obviously within reason. It feels like we are exhausting those primary targets and I'm hoping we have some back up targets. The club has to have known that getting those players we pitched for would be an uphill battle.
-
We seem to be targeting players who are hyped up and of a profile whereby other suitors will be ahead of us.
-
Yea and Wilson was another player we hung on too long to. We need to arbitrage PSR like everyone else, in fact it's even more important for us as our revenue is much lower than our stated ambition. Buying a player who is almost 29 who doesn't even have elite European experience for a premier League premium price is just adding to PSR issues we may face in the future.
-
You mean the pivot to younger premier League proven players? We have chased "hot properties" this summer for sure, I guess we fell for the hype.
-
I've seen this line repeated a lot about Eddie not being supported but I'm struggling to understand the point? Not being supported as in he's having to get his hands dirty when it comes to transfers? Or not being supported as I've we haven't spent up to psr limit every time?
-
Because he will not improve, and his resale value will be less than what we pay. He's a good player don't get me wrong but we have one of the oldest squads in the league and we are literally choosing the most expensive option possible.
-
I think Mitchell bouncing and the targets we have been pursuing tell us that Eddie is well and truly in charge of recruitment direction.
-
Guehi last summer was text book wrong store buying. So many good centre halves have transferred for much less than that pursuit.
-
If we sign Wissa I don't ever want to hear PSR from anyone at the club, client journalists included.
-
Nah, this isn't the case. Like us clubs have a list of players for each position. Obviously Isak was 1 for Liverpool but it appears they aren't able to do a deal at a price they want so they moved on to 2 Ekitike. This is all likely driven by Jotas demise and then wanting rid of Nunez.
-
I don't knock the agents personally. They are acting in the interest of the client and trying to secure the best deal possible for both themselves and client. We've tried to shop in the wrong stores and come back with just one signing unfortunately Pressure is obviously massive now for all involved. Lol at the Geordie journos for blaming the ghost of Paul mitchell
-
Unpopular take Can we blame Burnley for A, getting the maximum value for him and B, messing them about? We had a deal all agreed last year but we pulled the plug because of our PSR situation
