We didn't earn Championship money when we were in the Championship so no I don't think we would in this situation either. Other clubs would. But I think over time things would change. Fans dwindling from these super league clubs would inevitably mean TV money dwindling in the long term. While the teams left in a genuine competitive domestic league would slowly grow. Long term I agree they'd want to rejoin. Just my opinion but I think the entire idea of a super league is flawed and would fail long term
I think over 50% of the tv money is for the overseas deals. I have a strong suspicion this is to watch Man U, Liverpool etc.
Imho we would see a massive reduction of money in the English game should the top 6 form a European super league.
Sadly we’ve created a league where money is all that counts. Even if they were to leave this wouldn’t change that fact it would just lead to an inferior product.
Its about 40% of total TV money. Obviously I agree that kind of reduction in TV money would have a big effect on the English game overall. But even if we assume the entire revenue from overseas TV disappeared (which I'm sure it wouldn't, just a very large reduction) that would still leave NUFC earning £126m, which is more than some Premier League clubs earn now and about twice what a top Championship club gets. Basically what I'm saying is some clubs are more reliant on TV money than others and luckily for NUFC (if you even give a s*** under current ownership) we're one of the least reliant. As shown in our Championship seasons when we still came out with more money than some Premier League clubs at the time.
Also should be remembered that, as much as they whine, the top 6 clubs received nearly 40% of total TV rights money last season.
On this point, those clubs leaving would also massively devalue the domestic broadcast rights as well.
I’m not sure of the numbers but it wouldn’t surprise if those 6 clubs accounted for 30-40% of the total football fanbase of this country.
Also, the economic shock of a sudden reduction of income akin to say relegation would create massive solvency issues throughout the remaining clubs.
I think, it’s important to remember that football is no longer a sport first, it’s primary function is to generate revenue these days.
