  1. Well sure, but companies in those countries have no "right" to buy the broadcasting rights in a way that suits them. PL decides how they want to sell it and then its up to you if you want to buy them or not. Indeed, no argument here. If the PL wants to sell rights on a regional basis they are free to.
  2. Listening to the podcast now. I'm struggling to understand why these journalists struggle to understand why one country may have different rules to other countries. Just because we bundle sports rights here, doesn't mean other countries have to follow suit.
  3. Yea, it really is a nothing piece. Nobody has a clue how long this will take.
  4. Succinctly put and you couldn’t argue against it. Some on here will try, don’t you worry.
  5. It was done a long time ago but isn't approved? Not sure how that works. It really isn't done like. It was done a long time ago, contracts exchanged, Ashley sold to the Reubens/PIF/Staveley, but the governing body of the sport needs to 'approve' the commercially already done deal, before our owners can play football in their league. That is why approval was always definite, as the PL cannot change history, but they are extracting as much as they can from the deal, while they have this period of 'leverage'. That's an incredible spin on it like. It's wrong though. The "commercially already done deal" is dependent on the PL signing it off. If they don't sign it off, the deal doesn't happen. That's nothing to do with changing history. It's not 'spin' its is simple fact. The deal has been done, which is why it has taken the Premier League (because they KNOW the deal is done) so very long to issue their approval, as it is their one and only opportunity to get what they feel they need from the deal. This reality will be made clear, no doubt, in the "post approval" announcements. The deal is done in business terms sure. If the premier league don’t grant approval we can be fairly certain it will collapse however.
  6. It’s odd, it wasn’t a great sponsorship to begin with. The sums were modest and remember the sponsorship included stadium sponsorship as well. Struggling to make sense of this.
  7. I’m guessing this thought was from the Twitter sphere? Jokes aside, it could be the case but I have the feeling this would result in multiple legal proceedings. It also begs the question, why didn’t they just do this before?
  8. it is already getting unpicked. lunacy to give a Qatar company rights to Saudi they have a major beef with. Saudis will get there own tv deal which they will pay a hefty price for. Premier League will use some of that money to compensate Bein Piracy solved as well These contracts and legal docuemtns are what are taking all of the time. It could go either way. PL rejects the deal. Rights remain as a package which are bid up by Qatar Status quo is maintained. Remember. For the PL this is about money but for Qatar this is about power. The thing I’m most certain of is that the PL won’t consider unbundling the rights before this one expires. Aren’t there indications that that’s exactly what’s happening, right now? They are? I must have missed them. Last I was aware, the Saudi’s had revoked BEIN broadcast license but I’m not aware of PL unbundling the rights to resell on a country by country basis as this would breach they agreement with Qatar. Unless a clause exists within the agreement between BEIN and the EPL.

  10. I don’t think it’s that simple. Qatar own the rights for the entire region until 2022. The premier league has shown no appetite to sell rights on a country by country basis in MENA previously. it’s clear both sides are using this as a Geo political Football which makes resolution even harder.
  11. If they did fail it for piracy why would they wait? Saudi have already taken multiple measures on that front. Also, Would a reject fall within the remit of the rest? We just witnessed Middle eastern Lawyers steamroll a governing body and id expect to see the same again should they do so. Despite all of the delays we haven’t heard any credible leaks indicating they will fail this.
  12. Saudi Arabia is a sovereign state and is free to decide who receives broadcast licenses. I don’t think it will have a bearing as it’s none of the premier leagues business and has no relation to the O&D tests as far as I’m aware. Geo politics aside.
  13. Aka manager of the year form.
  14. I mean I shouldn’t complain. They all voted for it after all. Self preserving is what they all do best so it shouldn’t be a surprise.
  15. This makes no sense, no club could ever break into the elite clubs without spending hugely to start with. Exactly my point Neesy. If FFP is enforced it’s closing the gate after the horse has bolted.
  16. Joke of a decision but hopefully this puts an end to FFP. It only serves to reinforce the status quo.
  17. Why would the EPL be busy with matters which relate to Manchester City and Uefa?
  18. It’s almost as if, for the last 10 years we’ve gone all in on the divide and conquer politics route. Which is reflected in all walks of society.
