Could I change the subject for a moment as I have a question that I've wanted to understand for ages; Why do players take the ball...kidding...my question is how do football chants get started? I mean like their inception. I see folks on here writing some but how is that transferred to the stands? Especially in the days before the internet and forums such as this one. I've naturally been at the match and joined in ones I knew but I always wondered how they come to be.

I was never a fan of colo. Good in the championship, was solid enough first season after promotion but his captain abilities were dire and his apparent complicity with the likes of paedew and carver were just despicable. I am convinced he'd be injured or banned for periods just so he could go back to Argentina for whatever his "family issues" were. Maybe Williamson learned that trait from colo. Again, for me, it's not just about ability but also about attitude and both of these showed nothing but contempt for the fans and this club in my eyes. But, something else is bothering me. Anyone know if Williamson has his coaching badges? Cheap alternative if the fat man doesn't sell up and jettisons Rafa.

I disagree with this being a nice guy thing. I can't remember the exact details but I remember in an interview he was asked what he felt about the abuse being hurled at pardew in the stadium and he pretty much said (and I'm paraphrasing as it was so long ago) that he wasn't bothered what the fans shouted. I appreciate it was in text and so I could have taken it out of context (and I freely admit that during pardew's reign anyone who even seemed to side with him immediately irritated me) but it really came across to me as being said in a blasé couldn't-care-less-what-the-fans-think way.

I couldn't believe I've just read that. Usually one of the more sensible posters there would pull someone for something that crass, but I take it that this "janey" creature gets a pass because it has a note from its doctor confirming that it's probably female and is considered board royalty over there.
