Unclear if it’s all on Howe per se. However the club’s strategy of pursuing premium English / PL talent with premium corresponding fees, surely can’t be reconciled in the medium / long-term with the underlying FFP framework. We need to be better at identifying talent in a lower price-bracket. Yes this ultimately carries greater risk in terms of player adaptation and potential performances, but surely that’s what our scouting, recruitment and coaching teams are there to mitigate against to the greatest degree possible.

The club’s recruitment meetings must be absolutely absurd, surely Guehi can’t be the only name discussed or on whatever list.

But nevertheless I can’t help be disappointed our supposedly strengthened scouting network can’t identify other suitable CB targets within such a big price-bracket. The FFP complaints are jarring if this is our strategy.

It isn’t great, it was something I had hoped Ashworth could solve when he was here, but he wasn’t able to make much progress either. Hopefully Mitchell will have more luck, but we’re very poor sellers in general.

The club haven’t been able to finalise the necessary outgoings unfortunately. Unwanted players like Dubravka, Lewis, Fraser, Hayden, Targett remain. Whilst more saleable assets like Almiron, Wilson and Trippier haven’t had buyers. It has to have been a factor in how we have operated this window.

Perhaps Fulham coming in for Andersen has shifted things for them. I can’t imagine they would sell both in one window. Hence, why Palace are briefing the media now of their strong stance.

This whole matter has been a bit excruciating. I envision that dealing with Palace and by extension Parish, must be very difficult.

We looked very sharp last night, Gordon in particular was unplayable. Joelinton is an absolute monster, our midfield were far too powerful for them to cope with.
