Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle United (14/03/26) | post-match huddle pg. 30

Such a solid away performance last night. I didn’t really feel like we were hanging on, managed the game well and we had the outlets to keep the ball ticking over. Gordon’s off-the-ball work was sublime. He has everything, which makes it even more frustrating that he seem to only show it on the (big) occasion. -
There’s more noise at my 6 a side weeknight league than at Anfield here.

Might as well watch Liverpool TV with this coverage. Drury’s constant fawning is absolutely nauseating.

It’s a point that’s been made endlessly, but having Carragher co-commentate on Liverpool matches is nonetheless ridiculous.

Class performance tonight. Such a shame that our game management just went to absolute shit last couple mins, but hard to be harsh on the team after that honestly. -
Honestly fuming by his decision to not play the ball left on his side to wind down the clock. Absolutely insane game management.
-
Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t in that situation. Hadn’t stuck out a leg and Olmo just has a free strike on goal. The fault for the pen is more on our lack of ability to keep the ball last min.

Proper courageous performance from him tonight. Yes final ball was lacking at times, but he kept showing for the ball and never stopped being a threat. Well played.

I guess he has to nowadays, but mental Shearer of all people expressing his distaste for a challenge like that.

Second half has been very scrappy, not much quality on offer. Hato looked like he has something about him mind.

Wonderful first touch. Feel like Sanchez should do better honestly.

Whatever happened to the Djed Spence penitentiary?

The Goldeneye 64 Ange face, the hat, Jamie staring into space like a recovering prisoner of war and the parp sound at the end. Absolute cinema.

For me it’s something like: 1. Suarez 2. Rooney 3. Lewandowski 4. Aguero 5. Kane 6. Cavani 7. Benzema 8. Ronaldo Nazario 9. Haaland 10. Eto’o Probs a massive cop-out on my part not considering C. Ronaldo as a centre forward tbh. Ronaldo Nazario’s peak was arguably in the 90s, but had a few more wonderful goal-scoring in the early 2000s. Undoubtedly one of the most gifted players to ever grace a football pitch though. Falcao at his (too short a) prime is perhaps the best number 9 (apart from Ronaldo) I’ve ever seen. He was something else.

Quite a few thoughts on this, but surely Eto’o must be on this list!?

Where’s that linesman from Villa Park when you need him?
