Anyway, it’s not revisionism to say that maybe bar his debut against Villa, Tonali’s performances in the ‘eight’, for want of a better word, were nowhere near the majestic level he’s shown since dropping further back. And the team has benefited accordingly.

Tbf, I don’t think anyone thought that Longstaff was a better, or close to being a better player, than Tonali. They just pointed out that the team seemed to function better with Longstaff in it. It was the positional change that made all the difference. He’s now not playing in Longstaff’s ’position’, even if he has taken his place in the team.

Nah, they drew with Southampton the away game before that. So for their excellent away run, the last two aways have been fairly shite. *and if I was being really picky, I’d say the only decent team they beat in that run was Fulham (twice).
