Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Surely, despite all that’s gone on, his behaviour, and the contempt most now view him with, no one thinks we should never have signed him in the first place? -

As I said, I’ll rephrase from identified to wanted, or at least was keen to have. Suggesting Eddie, or any manager for that matter, should have no say in transfers is silly IMO and saying it based on one single transfer alone, is borderline idiotic. -

Alright, I’ll rephrase. Another player Eddie wanted us to sign once he was identified by someone within the club. -

Another player who Eddie identified as a player we should try for. But Eddie should be ‘nowhere near transfers’…. -
And look what’s happened as soon as a couple of transfers haven’t (yet) worked out. He’s getting absolute pelters for them. Is it any wonder he errs on the side of caution?
-
I think that would be pushing it at present, but if he stays for another 4/5 years….

Obviously we want to go there and get through to the final, and anything other than that is essentially a failure. However, given that disgusting run of results, getting a 2-1 win or even a draw, might actually help convince everyone associated at the club that going there isn’t an automatic defeat. Which would be helpful going forward.

A fucking goal at least…
-
Exactly. Last half of football they played they lost 0-2. And yes, I am choosing to conveniently ignore this:
-
But the vast majority of the time, what he says in relation to injury recoveries is accurate. But no-one ever highlights this, they just focus on the small number of times it isn’t.
-
Which would indicate it’s not particularly serious.

Eddie says he has a chance for Saturday.
-
Fit for tomorrow according to Eddie.
-
So we should have spent less money in the summer?
-
They’ve developed it quite a bit since then like. Although you could still definitely chuck the soulless accusation at it.
-
Man City on the way like. And also never won a league game since the move to the Etihad.
-
I mean it is absolutely the biggest contributing factor, whether people like it or not.

There might be others that we haven’t played regularly that challenge the time-span (Luton or someone of that ilk). But can’t think of anyone that we play remotely regularly that’s going to be close to that many matches.

For what benefit? He won’t need the money. When do you fit in a ‘match’, other than pre-season? There’s obviously a case for doing something where the proceeds go to charity, see Shearer, but he was obviously a special case, given his gravitas, and the fact he already had a foundation set up. I also get it in that he deserves some form of formal thank you, or show of appreciation, for his years of service, but I think the world of football has moved on from testimonials.
-
I think it’s fairly obvious he is fit (although match fit may be another question), but everybody quietly agreed that if he was leaving, it probably wasn’t worth him coming back and playing a few minutes here and there.
-
Good point. It’s still Murphy, but Schar is second.
-
Given the situation we found ourselves in, and the personnel available within the club at the time (and it’s probably a different discussion about how we ended up there), what was the alternative?
-
Yes. And I think Joelinton is second (or maybe Kraft).
