It was proved he did his style was simply you score 3 we will score 4 That year in 96 where Man United ground out 1-0 win after 1-0 win is what fucked us. 1-0 up at Ewood and ended up losing, the Anfield game once we took the lead we should have won. Man united seen games out once they went infront that season because Ferguson was far superior tactically and game management wise Keegan crumbled under the pressure and it spread to our team Someone’s hoovered up the trite media narrative eh? Schmeichel was the difference if you ask me. That’s it. Edit - also subsequent interviews with Gillespie and Ginola at least iirc said that they were not adversely affected by the ‘love it if we beat you’ stuff and that they loved his passion Schmeichel and Cantona were the difference we didn't have them kind in our side. As much as I loved Pav he wasn't in the same level as a keeper and a fabulous goalkeeper can make a huge difference Agree ? I’ve always said we would’ve won the league if we’d had a Seaman or a Flowers.

The “Keegan - tactically naive!” thing does my nut in to be honest. He might not have been big on organising the defensive shape and working on set plays but he knew football and how to win football matches. I remember plenty of games at SJP where we were say cruising 2-0 up in the 2nd half and we would just keep the ball for 10-15 minutes to demoralise the other side, then we’d go and get another couple of goals towards the end. That’s not being tactically naive to stupidly gung-ho, it comes from someone who was one of the best at what he did.

Think he'd be good under Eddie Howe, personally. Good shout. He’d thrive under that kind of attack-minded stewardship ?
-
Absolutely lifting post this mind ?

Love Hughton but he had to go really. Smart move if they get someone decent in straight away. He’ll get a decent gig elsewhere i’d imagine.

In my very few encounters with Stoke fans i’ve actually found them a bit like mackems. Lots of ugly, bitter halfwits in their fanbase it seems.

Really? I just think he was overrated. Tireless, I will give him that, and certainly became more positionally aware with age but he was never a great technician of the ball. Give me a Longstaff type all day. Was West Ham player of the year two years in a row, was in contention to get it the season they were relegated too and was in the England squad. Was Tottenham player of the year first season for them. Looked like he was playing more creatively for the other sides than us in addition to the work rate he had. As alluded to above, it was a lot of spinaroonies and sideway passes I rarely saw of him afterwards. Aye those irritating pivots were mainly down to the fact he was playing in a shit team where most players either weren’t good enough to find space or didn’t actually want the ball at all. Instead of playing it back or just lobbing it forward he wanted to keep hold of it to try and do something. I think i’ve said it before on here but for me, he was one of the better players in a really poor side.

Don’t West Ham already have a better version of Lascelles? Can’t remember his name now but he’s impressed me this season when i’ve seen him. Edit: Issa Diop, only 22 aswell which i didn’t realise. Looks like he could be class.

Presumably match officials would be instructed to make sure there were a minimum amount of VAR breaks in order to satisfy the exposure that sponsors are looking for?
-
Same here. I’ve never seen a player actively hide as much as he did in a lot of games, especially at St James Park. You could actually see him making sure he was marked so no one would pass to him. A total shithouse.

Glass was alright i thought

It was really frustrating knowing how good he was but also knowing he was more likely to miss the next 5 games than play in them.

Faye is the worst midfielder i’ve seen for us by far. Absolutely appalling player with not 1 redeeming quality.

Aye ? It seemed like were always waiting for Titus to apparently mature and cut out the concentration lapses to fulfill his potential. Obviously never happened. Wouldn’t give Distin the same wage as Robert, instead paid £2m more for Bramble. Given he was good for about 12 years after, that was one of his biggest mistakes. Would have been worth every penny. Aye, definitely the one that got away from that era. Him and Woodgate would’ve been a formidable partnership if it had happened!

This guy nailed it ?

Aye, are people reading something different to me? Still don’t believe he’s staying, and even if he does he’ll still have the fat man, Barnes, Charnley and all the other cunts hoying spanners in the works.

I wouldn’t even joke about it myself. Barton fits the usual Mike Ashley criteria of being cheap, under qualified, and likely to cause the club embarrassment.

It saddens me a little bit that a whole generation of people will only associate Keegan with the time he kicked off with his headphones on. Sky in particular love bringing this moment up, but never seem to point out that Ferguson’s comments were out of order and they like to make Keegan out to be some silly little jumped up man who thought he could go toe to toe with Fergie. The man was an absolutely legendary footballer and was also a very good manager aswell. He has a 50% win ratio over his career, compare that to someone like Fat Sam who is apparently a good manager and has a 39% win ratio. I wish he was recognised a bit more for that. What exactly were Fergusons full comments? I've searched a bit now and before and this is all I've found: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2009/jan/15/sir-alex-ferguson-mind-games https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/babb/11586896/The-full-story-of-Kevin-Keegans-I-will-love-it-rant.html I don’t have the full quotes but he basically suggested that teams like Leeds and Nottingham Forest would try harder against Man Utd because it’s Man Utd and they’d rather Newcastle win the title or something along those lines. Some would call it clever from Fergie i guess, a bit like a player who deliberately “wins” a penalty. Personally it’s not a part of the game i enjoy.

Aye love Eddie! Top class English manager who always plays attacking football.

This is something i noticed the last time i saw him play live for a decent amount of minutes. It was away at Palace and he was an absolute disgrace. He refused to do any hard work and bottled 2 50/50 challenges. In fact, one of them was probably more 70/30 in his favour. The guy literally couldn’t give a fuck. People keep saying he’s got talent etc. but that means nothing when his attitude stinks. For what it’s worth, i don’t think he’s that talented anyway. He’s embarrassingly 1-footed and has zero composure in front of goal. I’d bet my house on him stinking it up in shite leagues for most of his career and retiring at 33.
