Carroll is much better than the others as a centre forward like. Albeit he hasn't scored yet in his few appearances, but if you had to pick one to lead the line it's an absolute no-brainer imo.

Better seasons though? Manquillo maybe but I still don't rate him. Don't think Dubs or Fernandez have had better seasons? In my opinion Dubravka & Fernandez have had stronger seasons, arguable though. Hence 'arguably'. The salient point was about them regressing though, and none of the mentioned players have at all.

Don’t think that’s true tbh. Fernandez, Dubravka, Hayden, Manquillo, Shelvey, Lascelles, Ritchie... all here last season, all have arguably had better seasons this year.

Yeah, we had that spell where we showed we could be threatening. Just makes it all the most frustrating because it leads me to think the players either didn't have the belief or just couldn't be fucked. I thought Carroll done all he could, Saint-Maximin tried but was hampered by the tactics and made some silly errors early on. Joelinton & Lazaro gave it their best too after coming on. The rest, nah.

Precisely the reason I’ve disliked having him in our team for years now. Not the fact he’s shit at football, it’s the way he carries himself around the pitch, half arsed, grumpy. Shelvey gets grief for it but Gayle is far worse and it’s never touched on.

Darlow who is supposedly due to be sold too... fuck sake man. Dubravka could have easily been the difference here, our best player by a mile this season.

I'm just assuming one of him or Hayden will be out given their knocks, but really crucial we get Hayden in the line up if we have a chance here imo. Wishful line up more than what I expect. I was also thinking Joelinton could do a sort of wide target man role (I know he's not a target man but can be someone else to aim at along with Carroll when we're penned in).

So what? Let him play an hour then? He will hardly touch the ball, rather use him as an impact sub. Problem with that is we might be already out of the game by then. I’d rather start with our most threatening team and against City’s suspect defence, Carroll is a great option.

Can see a 2 man midfield with Shelvey in it getting completely over ran. Hayden and hope one of the Longstaffs are fit is our only hope. I disagree, neither of them have played for ages and weren’t in very good form anyway. Shelvey looks sharp to me and grafted well since the restart.

Think starting Carroll with Jo on the wing makes a lot of sense in a game like this personally.
