The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League
Coffee_Johnny replied to Rich's topic in Football
Wouldn’t be too gutted, hasn’t gone yet. Still fancy us to finish above Spurs and 50-50 with Man Utd. Both to play at home (and Brighton). -
Can’t wait to welcome little ‘Geordie Gondim Lira’ to the world!

Pretty confident we’ll get a purple in the summer. Plus another couple of first teamers. We’ll see out the season fine as we are. We’re already in a final, no other cup distractions, a few formation permeations should it be necessary, could see us with Bruno, Joelinton, Longstaff, Willock, and Anderson for two slots. If necessary, which hopefully it won’t be. -

Really want to beat Liverpool, in particular; preferably convincingly. -

Just looked at Mitoma versus Trossard. 5 goals from 15 appearances versus 7 goals from 16 appearances this season (B&HA). Think they both have an assist. Tough player to replace, but seemingly they have it covered. -

Yep, might be off karma if Brighton pip us to fourth place, like we took the trophy off them (thanks due to Jack Grealish) on the last day of the Championship promotion season. -
Ah! Do you not get some kind of additional points boost for VC? (I know I should know by now ?)

I think it’s just that you’ve already lost 5 and us one. Fact is though you’ve only failed to win 8, we’ve failed to win 11. -
Fernandes got 10pts yesterday and has a game to play.

Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

I think you’re probably right. Only caveat is if he has a preference and ‘digestible’ rationale for changing it for an away game. Plus how things look in training; if Gordon is pulling up trees, given how he played during his cameo, doubt he’ll be left out. -

Don’t get the fixation with overlapping fullbacks, given how effective we have been with this system. Do we want to have two left sided players behind the ball when the opposition breaks? -
How about ☝️ Industry and creativity in abundance.

They seem to have not missed the losses of some of their better players (Summer and Jan windows). Cucurella, Bissouma, Trossard (about £90m recouped). I don’t know enough about their squad to know if they’ve bought well, but can’t recall any big money transfers. I do think they will miss Trossard though. Seemed to be involved in a lot of their goal scoring chances. -
I knew what you meant you Anglophile named NUFC-nutjob ? He doesn’t look ‘hungry for possession’ (his own) take lots of subtle touches or showboat. He’s comfortable, technically adept and a great long passer. But he is efficient, gets rid, and lets the forward players do their thing. However we conceptualise his game, it is extremely effective. Hope he carries on doing what he’s doing, except for he needs to score a thunderbastard winner at Wembley which I intend to (unwisely) place a chunk of money on.

Just think he is that bit quicker and wouldn’t have been caught. Great defending though. Aguerd looked a class act. -

Wish I’d the courage to with my first, against the odds, thoughts of wins for Wolves and Everton (though had both at 1-0). -
Decided to put Gnonto as VC instead of Fernandes. Fingers well and truly crossed.

Similar feelings to me. Thing is we can’t will it into reality, top 4 (or any other ‘desirable outcome’). Note to myself after yesterday’s disappointment, I’m going to try to just observe and enjoy. We are finishing top six. We are going to a cup final. We have the foundations for further improvements next season. What a time to be a fan of NUFC. Anything else is a bonus.

But your point was ‘in an attacking sense he’s our weakest player in every single game’. So, tbf, it only needs one exception to be accurately discounted.

A controversial point for the morning after the night before. Been thinking about it and I would rather have him there than John walkabout Beresford. Imagine him just giving it to Ginola instead of overlapping him and leaving us open?

We’ve got no space left in our draw drawer. -
Many more could make that list, who would also improve us. But I agree, and think we will undoubtedly strengthen that position. Here’s hoping we have the draw of, and prospective money, fromChampions League football.
