  1. I’d settle for just regularly taking points off the cheeky chappies ?
  2. Positive and negative stat attacks always best taken with a heavy pinch of salt. It’s not the numbers but their interpretation/use. ‘Patter-peddlars’ (paid and unpaid) often use statistics the way a drunk uses a lamppost: for support not illumination.
  3. Regardless of the injuries debacle, we should have won yesterday. And could/should have held out at Anfield. We look very well organised, have a system that works (even if two or three of the cogs in it could do with replacing) are difficult to beat and have a new centre forward who looks the real deal and will get better (not least with better service/having others around him which the opposition will worry more about). We could/should be sitting 4th with 11 points, but great signs of what is come. If I were to guess, I believe we are so close to being a top six side, will miss out on so many near-miss additional points, that we’ll bemoan not going that extra mile to strengthen in CM and RW/RM this window. But fuck it, happy to settle in for a comfortable top half season and enjoy some of the exceptional performances our strongest 11 will be capable of.
  4. I need to keep a better eye on him, I think. I love it when a local lad comes through and establishes themselves. Haven’t seen anything yet (others who know better evidently have) which has excited me yet. Never been the worst player in the pitch/in black and white but unfortunately, even latterly, than has been quite a low bar.
  5. You’re on a roll today STM! Great posts ?
  6. Nobody has said it, but also think the Palace defender should have been sent off. Dangerous play/reckless endangerment or whatever they call it. He deliberately launched Willock into Guaita and it could easily have been even worse injury wise.

    7th-ometer

As described in more detail back in June, the chart takes the number of games per month (A5, S3, O6, 2 each in Nov and Dec, J3, F4, M3, 6 in Apr, and 4 in May) strength of opposition, plus home and away variation, to predict how a ‘top ten kind of season’ is most likely to progress. The white bars showing expected cumulative points total each month. The blue line showing actual points accrued. We were one point ahead at end of August (6 instead of predicted 5). Still two more September games to go to reach the predicted 11 points. 51 points secured 10th place last year. 59 in 2020-21 and 54, in 2019-20.

    Nick Pope

Thought he played his best game for us today. Looked confident throughout. Couple of good saves.
  9. Thought he was slow thinking, under confident and out of his depth (take no pleasure in saying so). p.s. sorry, commenting on different games.
  10. Thought Joelinton put in a great shift today. We are going to be regularly disappointed if we need him to be a consistent creative threat/pick a defence splitting pass/beat a man/ basically, score or make a key contribution to scoring. He harries and breaks up play (beautifully). Longstaff, doesn’t fill the void, and looked way out of his depth, at times. Bruno (Maddison, Gallagher, pretty much any fucker we were interested in) sorely missed today.
  11. (Unsurprisingly, not in a someone else has already said this kind of way! ?)
  12. Agree with everything ?. Except atmosphere felt loud and responsive where I was.
  13. Felt the same about the goal. Defender created the momentum which carried JW into the keeper. Good atmosphere (where I was), just a bit short in creativity/craft. Enjoyable game (we are solid) but frustrating; Longstaff and Joelinton can’t be relied on to create. The former looked frozen in the headlights/wanted too long to make a decision. Genuinely believe Bruno would have carved these open. Fraser worked really hard and was just a little off with final ball. Surprised Miggy came off, as was he I think, 1-0 would have been fairer (and right I think) on the day. Full strength and we would have comfortably won today.
  14. Keegan t-shirt ✅ Ginola socks ✅ Loaned a car ✅ . It’s back on
  15. Fecking train to Newcastle cancelled. No other one available which gets in on time for kick-off! (…doing my own kick-off now ?)
  16. Can’t you find something else to talk about?
  17. Only the fair minded sane Wearside element would like him and even if they did consider coming (not a big number then! ?)
  18. We have tactical options with intelligent, skilful and hard working players who can be flexible and adapt in game. If we get a fair wind and calm seas injury wise, what a journey this season is going to be!
  19. Makes sense. Why help out the competition? We are now top six competitors and will take points of the best teams. More than anyone else, hope we piss on Chelsea’s aspirations.
  20. What ‘we’ are able to do. Welcome to the family bonny lad ?? p.s. and I will do; and raise a glass to you and the absence majority.
  21. We’re like the Mounties, we always (ish) get out man ?
  22. Farewell sweet thread! You’ve been an ‘interesting’ companion.
  23. Farewell Martin and thanks for all you’ve done.
