  1. Seem to recall 360 being seen as one of the ‘if patter was watter we’d all be drown’ rumour merchants.

Just had a look at what, historically, has been required for a sixth place finish; I’ve used average points per game rather than total points (just to get around the initial 42 game seasons). Graph shows this along with ppg for 1st place, 18th place and ourselves. The average ppg for sixth is 1.61 (most likely to fall between 1.51 and 1.71); the average for the Champions is 2.28 (2.11-2.45 most likely); ours is 1.36 (1.66-1.06 most likely); and relegated in 18th place was 0.94 (1.03-0.85 most likely). Eddie Howe’s NUFC has 1.67ppg (P39 W18 D11 L10).

In terms of which traditional/usual top six sides we might finish above, we have a draw and a win in two of the away games; alongside a very harsh late defeat against a struggling (by their standards) Liverpool side. Win a couple, or three!, of the home games against those three and who knows. I’d also fancy us to take 3 or 4 points off Chelsea. Only Man City and Arsenal look out of reach at the moment.
  4. Do we still slip on banana skins? Because this has all the signs of one in waiting. 7 points from three games which we would have all probably been absolutely delighted with 4 points from. I don’t think we do. Assuming we’re not overly leggy, or at least no more so than Villa (they’ve had three games in ten days, three in seven for us) we’ll have done the work on how to approach this. Both teams will have had a six day gap, which should enable us to regroup and recuperate. Dizzy heights of 24 points from 13 games (1.85 ppg ?) seems very likely.
  5. Can’t agree with you there, BB. But if I don’t get it out of my head at some point today I’ll be joining you!
  6. Ahhh… what a way to wake-up. Some wonderful footage on and off the pitch. Great time to be a Newcastle fan. Beginning to truly believe there are even better times coming that we may well live to see!
  7. Thing about Tripps that strikes me is he is like 100% on the competitiveness continuum, but close to 0% on the aggressive continuum: never seems to get riled. Rare and rather wonderful combo.
  8. How much did Killer cost? ?

“Comments like these rightly give rise to people calling our fan base deluded and entitled.” Haddaway and shite, man. Do the maths. Look at how we’re playing, given Howe a little settling in time, the points return from January this year. Who gives a fuck about the potential sneering comments from others. We should be striving, with every sinew, for top six. That is where we deserve to be—stats not entitlement.
  11. More Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s childcatcher/Michael Jackson’s dark side for me…
  12. Felt like this was the young/big lad’s best performance for us—taking everything into account. His positioning and reading of the game was first class ?
  13. Living his best life… Imagine returning home to his wife and son after a day at the office like that. Perhaps it is a just world after all… . Lovely when good things happen to good people.
  14. 1-2 ?. To quote our glorious leader, I’m having that! Might be favourite 5 points of the season.
  15. Opened my last can of Wor Beer in superstitious desperation!
  16. Couldn’t agree more (says your Sketchers wearing, Coldplay loving, brother!)
