Re-read the bit after questioning his commitment. -

Unlucky with injuries sure, but you would have to question the commitment side of things too. A lot of players play with niggles, first sign of anything and this guy is off for months. If you were checked out which i suspect he is, you'd just be running down the clock. He knows Isak is #1 and doesn't seem to have the motivation to take on that challenge. It's a shame because he's more than decent when he's actually fit or bothered. -
He can't utilise a few of our best players. Doesn't know what to do to a) get the best out of the player and b) can't get our best players playing cohesively together.. so reverts to Longstaff, Murphy etc.
-
Great to have him back but we should be realistic about expectations. Took VVD a full season almost to regain the form he showed in previous seasons and he's still not quite at that level. Botman has youth on his side more so but give him time.

The new rules shift the focus from documenting process details to defending outcomes. For a club like us with significant financial resources (top legal/accounting teams), this can be hugely positive as long as we are well prepared for independent oversight and framing a deal in a certain way.

Fair to say more of ye have come around to my way of thinking. I think we'll pick up another win, all forgiven and then it'll go like the last few games has and the same debate will just keep recycling. That's what it is now - i think another coach could get more from the squad available, some of you don't. We cannot count on having a good window for player recruitment, so it falls back on the current squad.

England was a panel, it worked out well so his stock went up. Brighton he was guided by a leader with a clear vision, but ultimately low expectations. But there’s a pattern there of being a follower more than a leader and that’s maybe what happened with us. He seemed to be a bit frozen out well before there was ever an approach for him. He didn’t have the personality to take on Eddie Howe and pull rank. Seems to be the same case with Manchester United as well. Jimmy Brexit probably wanted something akin to Joe Kinnear with a Diploma. But instead found a weak character too timid to get his lack of ideas across.

The Barnes deal never made much sense to me unless Howe had doubts about Gordon at the time. But saying that, aside from Isak and Wilson, he's the best finisher at the club. He's at a good age and with a run of form and goals his value could or should be higher.
-
He does come across quite serious, the ones with a good sense of humour, or at least be able to tell stories seem to get on the best. Could listen to Ally McCoist talk about Gazza all day long.
-
If we lose money on Barnes by selling, then don't sell. He gives us plenty when he does get a chance.
-
He'll end up in media one way or another, possibly as a pundit but more likely a podcast.

I really didn't think the topic of sexual preference would still be a thing in this day and age But it's literally the one weekend where football bothers to show that gay people are accepted in football and he ruins it by writing "I love Jesus" across the armband that is supporting the cause. What's anyone supposed to take from that other than he disagrees with the sentiment? Do you think gay people should be included in sport? What are your feelings on the pride flag?
-
The evidence is scribbled all over the armband. "I'm being made do this so this is my little protest" vibes. And that's not a reach. Like i said before, we have a group of fairly good eggs in this squad and regardless what some of them may or may not think in private - they don't do what Guehi did. I don't want that anywhere near our club. Putting whatever point he was trying to make aside, it was dumb as fuck and opens up all sorts of questions about his maturity, tolerance, intelligence and leadership. Hypothetically, he comes in for 50m+ and is an England regular, kids are going to be looking up to that. Is that what you really want as a role model?
-
Yes, this cunt! Scribbling a message over a pride armband to basically tell gay people that he doesn't agree with them being a part of football is a cuntish move. If i'm a wanker for believing that then so be it.
-
Hoping this cunt has died every time i see the thread bump.
-
Putting anyone's personal beliefs or full on bigotry aside, you cannot be a captain of a football club that's supposed to represent everyone in the community, rather than just some. If Marc Guehi wants to carry on like that.. let him off, but give up the arm band. It's a wider responsibility, not a soap box for a personal statements. I don't want to see this cunt linked with us again, anyone bringing that sort of negativity into a club and hiding behind religion can only be a bad thing and say what you want about some of our players limitations, but we have a squad of really good eggs overall.
-
Oh a potential dry humping for sure but not before we have a questionable VAR decision go against us. Gordon will be up for it. We need to bring back the dark arts and frustrate the cunts.
-
Fuck that. You're representing your club and it's supporters and trying to promote inclusivity. Such a dick move.
-
So if the club is valued closer to 1bn now, do you think PIF have a number, a value, where if it reaches that and there is interest, that they would sell? The initial investment in players was to ensure we stayed in the league and with just a few more additions we got top 4. They haven't invested or been able to much since and we've dropped off. I am sure they'd be delighted to win something but it doesn't occur to me that they are doing EVERYTHING they can so ensure that. It's not a Middle-East vanity project. We're all waiting for some financial flex that may never come, so in itself worrying about PSR or whatever other bullshit the cartel wants to protect themselves with, it's sort of irrelevant. Announcing a new stadium would go some way to putting my mind at ease but so far, all we have is a feasibility study, maybe costing 100k? And of course we do not know what they are discussing behind closed doors, the answer could well be "not now". Regardless of whatever happens, we're never going back to the Mike Ashley days so i'll always be thankful for that.
-
Its consistency or lack of that will be his downfall. We could turn up next two games and play very well, but then it’ll all fall flat again and it’s been this way for last 2 seasons. He had excuses last year with injuries and suspensions but he’s exposed this year and he’s been found wanting. Other clubs around us have changed things up and have improved and it feels like we’ve stagnated on that side.

Who needs enemies with friends like that. Even if one of them shared the vid with someone else, that person sitting there unable to control themselves for a brief moment in the sun, on twitter..

That's a very good point, generally footballers for the most part are not the sharpest people, a lack of education and being surrounded by people with a lack of education creates a bubble where they can function perfectly well in life not knowing the things they don't know. A manager needs to aspire to be a bit more than that. But they cannot lose the aspects of their personality that make it easy for them to relate to their players. That's why for the most part, current managers are past players. You don't get many outsiders who go straight to coaching. Rafa Benitez was done as a player by his mid 20's and made the jump to coaching/management straight away. Similar with Eddie, his playing career finished relatively early at 30, so he had that time to soak in a bit more.
-
You can't read too much into a game when the opposing team changed their entire 11. But, a good win and a 1/4 final, not complaining and if we manage to get through maybe we'll be coming to the boil this time as opposed to the previous years.
-
The problem is that he won't, evolve that is. He's still trying the same thing from 2 seasons ago when it's quite obvious even to us dopes that teams have figured it out.

Callum Wilson: offered 'incentive-based' contract extension (Ornstein)
Dr Jinx replied to Strawberry's topic in Football
It's the thing Eddie said in that last press conference, and i'm paraphrasing.. but.. "we had hoped he'd be back but Callum didn't feel that he was ready yet. he's a bit hypersensitive to any issue" That to me says he couldn't be arsed playing through a niggle. He's at the back end of his career, like what's he saving himself for?
