I think in terms of natural ability he’s untouched, clearly football intelligence is lacking at times.

I think the difference is there’s a clear improvement from Wood to Wilson. St Max is clearly the most skilful individual at the club, but in terms of team balance Howe obviously thinks the balance is better without him currently. I suspect protecting Dan Burn at LB is a big part of Howe’s current mindset aswell.

St Max hasn’t been frozen out he’s been eased back for weeks on the bench. The trouble is Wilson is irreplaceable whereas we have coped adequately without St Max.

You’ve got to consider this alongside the injuries though he’s just become completely unreliable. The thought of watching Jacob Murphy doesn’t appeal to me, but you can’t have one of your big earners constantly unavailable for whatever reason.

If Eddie wants PL experience it limits our options and can’t see how anyone would want McTominay over say Kone. After Bruno’s impact I also think it would be daft to limit our options to domestic targets. The only domestic midfielders who jump out for me are the 2 lads at Brighton, but they’d cost a fucking fortune.
