Yeah he can't play 90 minutes twice in 4 days when he hasn't played a competitive match for over a year. Trust in wor Lacelles. He's a different beast now..

Yeah I'm talking about when they're at the top of their game - fighting for trophies etc etc. It doesn't happen to many of them and when it does happen, you may only get a few years doing it. I'm sure most footballers would play forever if their bodies allowed. It just has a finite ending even if you didn't want it to. Unlike most of our careers which seem to drag on forever haha

I love it. Pep lies all the time about his team and players and I think it's great; why should you give the opposition any clue? The only thing with Pep is that you can often tell it's a lie now... I knew he wouldn't play the academy Vs us but he really wanted Eddie to believe it. Luckily Howe is not as gullible as some!

Wonder how he did it? Strange injury. Bit like when Tripps came in and immediately broke his foot. Gutted for the lad, he looked upset when going off. Their careers are short at the best of times and it's a nightmare thing to happen when you join a new club. Happens to most of our signings though so I reckon he will be fine!

He's fucking awesome. He will be even better than Trippier skills wise I think. With Tripps, we excel also due to his leadership qualities which cannot be understated on the pitch. But this guy looks smoking! It's nice to know that Trippier can now have a rest/be injured and we aren't going to panic.

This for me! It's fucking great! The players must be loving it though. It just shows that when you're a team in lots of competitions and you can progress in them, the whole squad really do get game time.

I've honestly had the worst day today at work. I'm a nurse and I've had literally the shittest shift in the world, I've had no food for 12 hours and I've pissed once, I've ran around like a headless chicken, trying to keep these two sickies safe whilst short staffed and honestly, when I checked the score I was so fucking happy it made MY DAY! So thank you boys!!!!!

How is he not ruthless? - Pope came in and he immediately replaced Dubravka, no questions asked. - Ryan Frazer demoted to the u21s. - Almiron out of starting 11, Murphy in. - Switching Wilson in and Isak in when on a bad scoring run. - Hauling off Tonali at 55 mins against Brighton. - Lacelles, our CAPTAIN, not getting a look in the starting line up. We are in the early stages, we are not yet an elite team. I haven't seen any signs that Eddie is not ruthless when he has to be, he just doesn't throw his players under a bus like ETH. Which, IMO, is bad for morale. Even though we've bought some elite personell now, we've still got mediocre players playing above their level so it's not going to go swimmingly all the time. And I'm sorry but even if Bruno is off form, who the fuck are you gonna replace him with? We would almost certainly lose without him, it's a good fact that last season we won more games with him and lost most without. Until Eddie Howe has elite players all over the pitch, I'll judge him then.

For all his faults, Southgate is a very measured man. I like his comments re Saudi Arabia, Newcastle United and Saudi investment in his last presser. It's about time a manager came out and said it like it is; that Saudi investment is intertwined in British infrastructure and the scrutiny on football is basically obsessive to the point it doesn't make sense. But when does a hypocrite know they're a hypocrite? People are just thick.

Watched the highlights again. Brighton obviously played very well and we seemed lacklustre. Reminded me of Aston Villa away last season, completely overrun.. So as long as we bounce back I'm not too concerned. The 3 goals though... All could have been prevented. I'd argue that we had the better chances overall but again, poor finishing just lets us down. We need to get Wilson and Barnes on the pitch to finish these opportunities. Luck needs to fall our way at some point and I'd argue that we've not had any luck on our side in the last 3 games.

Great post and a good outside view to which I wholeheartedly agree with. The hard start cannot be understated and I would argue, that even though we haven't played well, we've also been unlucky and had multiple chances that have hit the post or we've not taken. And yes, it's no shame to Howe to lose against those top managers, especially given his age and lack of game time at the top. But I really believe in this guy and I believe he can become elite if we stick with him. Look at Klopp's rise to the elite... It's not dissimilar to Howe. But he needs time to adapt and learn..I really hope the club and us give him that - I think he's earned the right. Well done on your win today, played very well.

And we beat this Aston Villa team 5-1. So are we now better than Liverpool? Literally guys we will be absolutely fine.

The Liverpool v villa game gives me a lot of confidence for the run we're on at the moment. Can't underestimate how big of a problem having a difficult start is. I feel like we've been massively stitched up to try to bring our morale down. Even Brentford isn't easy!
