    Harvey Barnes

Easy as fuck to say in hindsight like but would render the concept of squaring a ball and cut backs redundant if its preferable for players to squeeze in unlikely shots reliant on questionable goalkeeping. Why bother creating chances at all when the more unlikely thing is more likely. Suppose people just presumed Barnes would do something magical in the heat of the moment when they just wanted the ball hurled into the box in the last seconds of a game and were totally chilled about it and if it had been saved he'd be commended for trying instead of passing to someone else, its not like players would ever get slaughtered on here for taking shots in instead of passing. Like saying Murphy should have took the header on instead of teeing up Isak in the final.
  2. Sad anyway. Terry Yorath was a big name player before my time and a manager when I got into football and all those guys from then are on a sort of pedestal for some reason that ones thereafter aren't (respect for elders I guess) but also because of Gabby's connection with us (Durham Uni, cut her teeth on the local news, soft spot for NUFC) it feels more personable and feel for her atop it. Was wondering if Ashley17 might have some of that footage when I heard the news, sure she did some segments with Ferdinand and Ginola would have been 95 or 96, that I never managed to get. Used to watch her hosting Sky Soccer Weekend every Friday too before the OPTA nerd and the betting stuff took up half the show. Only got used to calling her Logan a few years ago. Bless him.
  3. Yeah, I think all hope has to go to make one of these for us. The two Leicester games that was the case with me. Had no concept if it happening because I'd never seen it and it may well never have happened prior either in the 5-4 case. 97 was just because it was Dalglish and the boring way he played - would have maintained some hope if Keegan was still there. Had if not hope then at least awareness of it being possible from experience in all the other cases.
  4. Keegan. We all know Sir Bobby, Eddie and Rafa were better tactically. On the other hand could they have achieved what KK did, each might maintain a 12point lead but would they get one. That said the sad thing still is that they each inherited a poor situation and couldn't tag on to good work of a pervious regime - and we so nearly managed it with KK to Sir Bobby. Feels sort of like Eddie and Sir Bobby saved the team from relegation and transformed it but Keegan saved the club from relegation and transformed it. Gave us a different history and feel than we'd have had without him.

Fine margins. Bet we were all hoping he'd just edge it back to Ramsey who was well positioned for a better effort percentage-wise (or XG wise). If he hadn't scored he'd be getting savaged for it. As it is he must have a Robert level of goals, goal involvements per minute ratio.

Waaaay too cocky, on waaay too little right to be only to end up looking wankers - its a pen for a fanbase
  7. DCL already celebrating the goal with the header off the bar cost him a goal there When Yeboah did a premature celebration for Leeds at the same end in 95 he at least put the ball in the net after Impressive stad eruption on the winner (missed at the time)
  8. Had West Ham a few years back, same goal times as the Leicester 97 game
  9. Its so true mind. That was the tone at the time. When Gallacher scored it was taken as a consolation at best and almost an insult to waste a goal on a lost game.
  10. Gave the Leicester fans a cracking good old fashioned "You're not singing anymore" for the last few minutes of that game, our bit of the East Stand and the Leazes adjacent to the away fans didn't even watch the rest of the game.
  11. You never forget your first massive ridiculous late come back after completely giving up hope. The murmering despair on the Gallowgate for most of the game was reminiscent of this place for most of this.
  12. Were a midtable side ourselves with no right to dominate anybody in this division.

    Kevin Keegan

Love the guy. Dread the day. Lost me mam to this as a kid but will always have, after going in the dark days with her, because of this man that she got to see a club transformed and her son getting to experience joy out the club at last before it was too late. Remember we got a card the following week from someone who wrote "(Mam's name) will be laughing her socks off" at us getting promotion - I could easily imagine that. Probably for many of us a disproportionate amount of good and shared memories are due to him. Such a legend and so important to this club that it was acknowledged in real time.
  14. PSR has been financially very unfair to fans, gives clubs an excuse and a requirement to milk as much as they can - but nobody, including the fans of the elite clubs that have been replaced by tourists cares about that now so long as the elite clubs are protected

    St James' Park

We didn't sell out some cup games in the prior years but extended to 52,000 and righly so, based on selling out a stadium with 16,000 less seats 99.5% of the time

    Match Atmosphere

I think that's my recollection, 94-96 being distinctly down on 92-94 (though very good when you watch games back from a modern perspective). 96/97 onwards its probably been good 20% of the time if that. Though it was no better than now before Keegan for all the cheap tickets and no prawn sandwiches, old school fans and stuff. Probably had one league game (the first) in 90/91 were the atmosphere wasn't dead. I'm talking reserve games atmospheres. Not to say its hasn't often been better than anywhere else because everywhere has been mostly bad in the same time period.

    Match Atmosphere

dot coms assessment of the atmosphere against Crystal Palace on this day in 2002. Just to emphasise the point that this is an ancient topic and not something that's sprang up recently. "Occasional attempts from small pockets of singing to get the atmosphere going - they failed for all but a few seconds after half time."

    Dogawful Officiating

Think you've got to go one or the other. If it comes down to human error in the end is there any fucking point in the tech?

    Match Atmosphere

We were throwing paper aeroplanes on the pitch against these 20years ago it was that boring and the atmosphere that dead. Just as long as were not pretending otherwise, its a fair cop.
  20. Not interested in it generally but not because of politics. I'd have watched 78 had I been alive and its not like people that did were pro military junta's, just wanted to watch some football.

I'm shocked the 'wall' and 'acoustics' haven't helped mind, shocked.

Though I mock their support I'm actually surprised that at the highest peak they've had in 25years and maybe ever have that they're giving away tickets and still cant sell out even against Man City. Thought they'd manage to fill it until falling back, a few bad results or the novelty wears off towards the end of this season or some point next.
  23. There's never been a time since I got into football in the late 80s when this could not have been said of them, no matter the massive changes in football and at Chelsea, this never changes.
