If any set of fans could like a player that scored twice against them for their local rivals in a comfortable beating and scored a goal that helped win your rivals a cup - the two worst things that could happen to them - just because we don't like him anymore, it'd be them. Upsetting Mags trumps damage to themselves.

Just looking at that picture of Ayresome Park, for the league cup tie in 92 with the away end closest to camera, it had to be one of those alleyways of the houses lined up behind that on our way there a bloke in front of us was hooked in for a beating, like being fished off a stage, so effeciently that it was obviously old hat. He wasn't wearing any colours that I recall and wouldn't surprised if it was a case of any old port in a storm. Sunderland was sheepish by comparison.
