Wigan fans are mongs if the ones interviewed on SSN are anything to go by, they actually want Souness.  :idiot2:

I can't believe all their fans on SSN's actually want Souness as their manager.

Really unbelievable, they all seem to be ginger as well.

I think they should just stick to that good version of Rugby where skill is involved not just kicking and beating the living shit out of people.

Spot on.

How many more Premier League chairmen are going to promote coaches/assistants to manager?

NEVER f****** WORKS. :lol:

Doesn't like. I can't even think of one example to prove otherwise. (although there must be some out there)

    * First Division champions 1975-76, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1979-1980, 1981-82, 1982-83

    * First Division runners-up 1974-75, 1977-78

    * FA Cup runners-up 1976-77

    * League Cup winners 1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83

    * Football League Cup runners-up 1977-78

    * Manager of the Year 1975-76, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1979-80, 1981-82, 1982-83

    * European Cup winners 1976-77, 1977-78, 1980-81

    * European Super Cup winners 1976-77, 1977-78

I'm pretty sure you got his point. You're splitting hairs tbh.

"Premier League" is just a name. Division 1 / Premier League, it's all the same. It's still the top flight of English football.

I was just highlighting how long ago that was, there hasn't been many similar cases in more recent times.

Guest optimistic nit

football has changed though. i'm not convinced it would work nowadays, and thats because you don't see many assistants with the ability to manage. i think atm promoting a coach is seen as a cheap option that requires less hassle than actually appointing him on his ability. look at hutchins' record, 3 premiership wins i think it was, with 2 clubs. i just don't think he's that good a manager. assistants are hired by managers not for their tactical nouse but for their ability in other areas that won't neccicarially make them a good manager. is it henk ten carte at barca? whoever it is he's supposed to be pretty good, but you look at hutchings and the bolton one (i cant honestly remember his name) and they just seem out of their depth. Carlos Quirentoz seems to be being groomed as the next manu manager, and i think that will probably work.

i think whatever gartside and whelan are saying (mainly gartside) i reckon both managers were hired to continue the work of their predecessor, but neither have been able to.

Henk Ten Cate is at Chelsea under Avram Grant, had a so so spell at Ajax in between where he came second last season and crashed out of Europe twice this season (CL and Waffa)

Jewell looks like he is interested in his old job after a 6month break.

Would he bring back Hutchings as assistant??

Can't see that happening, if he does come back it'll be a tougher job than last time around.

If Wigan get a decent manager, they'll stay up. Get Souness and they are down.

I was looking at the league table and thinking "scum and boro will both go down" as i reckon Spurs, Bolton, Wigan will all get out, now i wouldnt be so sure if souness ends up there.

From the MEN:

Wigan search goes on

Neil Barker

13/11/2007

WIGAN could turn to Graeme Souness or ex-Luton manager Mike Newell as their manager search continues to be frustrated.

Former boss Paul Jewell was approached by club owner Dave Whelan over the vacancy but, after a short period to consider his options, has decided against rejoining the club he guided to the top flight

Latics chairman Whelan has told board members he wants a tough disciplinarian to succeed Chris Hutchings and Souness fits the bill.

Ex-Latics player Newell, who blew the whistle on corruption in football while boss at Luton, is also a strong candidate.

Ex-City manager Joe Royle has declared his interest in the post but is now an outsider among a list of names linked with the job, including Kenny Dalglish and Alan Shearer.

A final decision as to who does take charge will be made by Whelan, who is on a working holiday in Barbados.
