I hope when I check this thread on lunch that thread title says 'jobless'.

Same here although I have a horrible feeling he'll be going nowhere due to no bugger wanting to take the job.

Still reckon he's going no where.

If he was going anywhere he'd have gone by now.

This fucken club is a complete joke. Failure is accepted.

There's no game until next monday so still plenty of time to get rid and bring in a replacement. That said, if he's not sacked today then he's probably staying. We could easily sack him straight away then start the search for a replacement assuming we haven't already sounded anybody out.

I just don't have that optimism. He's here to stay and we're going down. I've accepted both those things now.

Like i said earlier today.

At this point everything points to what Edwards (?) said about them wanting to secure who takes over before pulling the trigger. I'll be honest I actually see the sense in that from their perspective, one more days wages for McClaren means fuck all while they go for someone else.

Agree with that. They're making sure that the replacement is there before sacking McClaren. No other reason why they haven't put out a simple daft statement saying McClaren to stay until the end of the season with full backing of the board. Stretch this 'silent' period back to that Chelsea thumping and you could see they're not backing him like they backed Pardew and Carver.

I've not got an ounce of sympathy but what a weird job managing is. Sitting at home knowing you're probably going to get a call saying you're sacked but you might not. Must proper mess with your head.

I'm sure knowing you'll get decent compo would make you feel OK.  If I was doing that much if a shit job I would have offered my resignation out of self respect.

That's true, if people were shouting loudly at my place of work I was doing a shit job I would probably take the hint like.

You would think they might have sounded out potential candidates before now considering we've been around the relegation zone all season. There again, if Charnley's had anything to do with it, he'll have had his head stuck firmly in the sand hoping it will all go away.

I disagree. If you know McClaren has to go you sack him now. Rest of coaching staff ticks things over and you quickly get the right guy in.

There is no such thing as not being able to bring in the right manager. You just have to do what it takes. The only reason they want to keep McClaren while sounding out a replacement is because they don't want to offer what it takes to get the best in. They will chance it, get knocked back, then stick with McClaren.

It's shockingly amateur.

You know what, this is a fair point. Regardless of how terrible he has been, they have to think about their employee here and it's unfair on him to have to go through this wait. It's horrible enough for us, clinging on to the slightest clue as to what's happening but it must be really sh*tty for him.

Not a fan of his and I want him gone, but dragging this out is just awful. If it was pardew, then I'd keep him waiting sitting on rusty nails like.

BUT, in total fairness mcclaren could (and effing should have) quit of his own volition. So actually sod him. Hope it's twisting his guts.

I'm sure the compensation that he will pick up helps him get over waiting around.

Fuck McClaren, when he was asked whether he was leaving he said no way, that wasn't his decision.

Read: I didn't ask to come here, if I'm going I want my contract paying up. If Newcastle go down it's not my fault, it was the Newcastle board who wanted me as manager. I know I'm shit btw.

Most managers hang on to their jobs with a death grip like they're riding a mechanical bull. Everyone wants them to quit. Sometimes people start to feel sorry for the manager due to the amount of vitriol aimed at them. They don't look well but they hang on until they get fired so they can get their pay off. The joke is, most of them are multi millionaires anyway.

You're right and this brings up another point; in what other line of work do you get sacked for being sh*t and get your contract paid up? This is the reason that snivelling wretches in football management don't resign anymore. But if a manager fails at his job, has been given time to improve his performance and hasn't, then surely it's just P45 time? No compensation package, just a reference to say that he has worked there and maybe a "future endeavours" message.

We could now find ourselves in a situation where he stays by default as they can't find anyone else to take over and has therefore lost any last shred of credibility he might have had as absolutely everyone knows they were deperate to bin him.

I really think it's a matter of sack him now or we go down.

We have Leicester away next, certain 0 points under McCLaren, therefore clearly stupid idea to sack him after that rather than now.

Can you imagine the pressure on the Sunderland game? If we lose that it's game over.

Sack him now, get someone in for Leicester and you never know, could sneak a point at Leicester or at least put in a performance.

Then at least we are in a fresh position to go at Sunderland with replacement having been in for 10 days or so rather than just 4/5.

I think they will gamble on a new manager bounce before the mackems (assuming a loss at Leicester). May as well just do it now.

People do have contracts paid up away from football, sometimes it's easier to pay then up than try to fight a case that they were fairly dismissed.  The only difference is that away from football they'll not be paid the eye watering figures that people like McClaren will receive.  Keeping company cars and going on gardening leave is quite common in large companies.

A new manager needs as much time as possible to look at the team on the training pitch, needs a weeks preparation before the next game.  I still can't see macca being ditched though.

Imagine going to work and being told to just wait in the car park until they can see if they can find someone better than you.
