Mags Serbia
from:Daily Mail Eriksson wins his battle to sign £8m Newcastle striker Owen Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson believes he has won the £8million battle to sign Newcastle striker Michael Owen. Reports in the Daily Mirror say that Eriksson is confident of getting his man in the January transfer window after stepping up his attempts to sign the England striker within the last few days. Owen, who will be 28 next Friday, has been plagued by injuries since joining Newcastle in a £16m deal 16 months ago. He has made just 20 League starts and scored nine goals following his arrival from Real Madrid but Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has been frustrated by Owen's injuries. Eriksson has made it clear he is desperate to sign him for City and has remained a huge fan since managing him with England. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=500269&in_page_id=1779

Guest The Libertine
no doubt this thread will turn into another owen bashing thread based on that crap article.
Mr. Snrub
If we sell him we best have a top class finisher lined up. If not, I won't be happy.
Kev
he hardly plays anyway i wont be bothered if he leaves as long as we sign crouch, arshavin or shevchenko

NSG
Sell tbh. He doesn't fit in with how Sam wants us to play, and whenever he plays we look shite. Get the players to fit the system, rather than creating a system for the players.
Lazy
I don't really care.
Dr Spectrum
And not a quote in sight. Want a quote? They're quite easy to come by when the man pulling the strings loves a bit of publicity. How about this: "We're looking to see whether we'll do a swap deal or not. Adriano was a top player, but he lost form when his father died, and he put on weight. Now he's returning to form." Thaksin Shinawatra. Or how about this: "Sven does like Peter Crouch, very much. But he has yet to decide (if he will make an offer)," Same source. Colos Short and Curlies
2 years ago who would have thought that Man City would be in pole position to sign Michale Owen, his current club (mid table) are split on keeping him and City fans would be split on buying him, possibly preferring Peter Crouch. Its a funny old game as some drunk once said
Dr Spectrum
PS: That article is word for word copied from the daily mirror, with the only difference being "Reports in the daily mirror say that" inserted at the start of the second line. People get paid for that!
Skirge
aye its getting close to that time again..
gray
Love how on the team news text I got today, everyone was mentioned as being out - Duff, Cacapa etc, even Ramage, but not a mention at all of Owen as if he doesnt exsist
Karjala
I wish, £8m - take their hands off!
2sheds
Again I wouldn't believe the date in the the daily mail. To quote rumours from another rag is scraping the barrel somewhat

NoU
If it does happen, not saying I would love it, but it could happen. Then I hope we have Anelka lined up as a replacement, would be a fantastic signing imo and it wouldn't be an impossible signing. And though he would cost a bit more we could actually end up making money if you include salaries.
Luc
Anelka might join Chelsea. But City think they can buy everything they want because they had a few decent games, fuck them.
Luc
Sven said on Skysports that he doesn't want to say anything about Owen and Mascherano. That should tell you something. Done deal.
Shak
Sell tbh. He doesn't fit in with how Sam wants us to play, and whenever he plays we look s****. Get the players to fit the system, rather than creating a system for the players. Spot on. Only players you should try and build a system around are truly world class ones, and Owen will never be at that level again.

Even if he was world class we couldn't build a team around a crock. £8m sounds good to me, same way the Real offer for Woodgate was way too good to turn down!
