What a load of sh*t. If Wenger and Ferguson hadn't have whinged about it it would never have happened.

In principle I agree with the idea though as long as there are stipulations like they must be English U21. That at least introduces players to the match day atmosphere and helps them on a learning curve.

This is brilliant news imo, i hope the 2 extra places have conditions though, ie must be home grown under 21 academy (former) players to help promote the youth policies of clubs.

Agree with Toon's Taylor.

Having only 5 subsitutions adds an extra side to the game in a way, like having to choose who to put on the bench who doesn't even make the squad. With 7 substitutions the 18 man squad will pretty much pick itself, so thats a bad side to it.

If it's done right, with say a minumum of 2 Academy players, then it's a good move. But I doubt it'll head down that route.

7 subs means more players hoovered up by the clubs with the most money just so they can sit on their big fat arses.

Will only benefit the big clubs, seriously doubt the U21 English thing will happen, and anyone who thinks that this is really going to make substitutions more effective, help develop youth talent, or do anything but help solidify the top 4 has been fooled.

Possibly.

On the other hand it also means more chances for young lads to make the breakthrough to the first team squad.

Has anything actually been said about there being conditions relating to age and nationality, or is everyone just seeing what the want to see?

Even if there is it ain't as rosy as everyone thinks it is.

Is there or is there not a problem with English players being over-priced?

Is there or is there not a problem with the big teams hoovering up all the best young players, who end up sitting in their reserve teams, rather than playing first team football, a la Parker, SWP, etc?

Is there or is there not a problem with the richest teams having huge squads making themselves close to injury-proof whilst the small teams who scrape by on a first team plus a couple of others can have their whole season ruined by a handful of injuries to key players?

Is there or is there not a problem with the teams with big squads being able to change the course of a game that they are failing in by bringing on high-quality talent from the bench, rather than identifying what's wrong and changing it through tactics, hard work, etc?

If any of these things are a problem will this make things better or worse?
