Ronaldo
Getting sick and tired of all this constant Shola-bashing. Here's a player who has at least given us SOME sort of service, in his goals, assists and has actually won us games and got us some points, compared to Smith, Carr, etc. He seems to have become an easy target, with only his negative points (of which there are several) being taken into account when he's spoken of. Yes, he should not be here; yes, he's pretty s****, but still unpredictable, and has and is still capable of giving more to the team than Smith ever will. Lay the f*** off him. If he doesn't want to leave, let him rot in the reserves. All this "phone him and tell him he's s****" is fuckin' childish. He asks for it though with his childish affirmations and never-ending line of excuses. His bulking up before his return against Reading in 2007 has basically lost him that unpredictability that made him any sort of threat. Really good lad Shola, but a dogshit footballer we need rid of asap

I wasn't genuinely advocating that someone rang him and shouted down the phone that he was shit ! Shola pisses me off cos he's not good enough to hack it in the top flight and he's been around for ages and never improved. Due to his lack of skills he is hugely frustrating to watch and gets on people's tits. He's a local lad who loves the toon and I wish him well in his career but I don't want to see him leading the line for NUFC. Just like I didn't want Ramage in our back four. Smith is an entirely different matter. He has been a shite signing. I suspect he must be able to play cos of the previous clubs he's been at, but we've seen fuck all from the lad. If we can punt him on we've had a result.

sicsfingeredmong
Ameobi has been a very fortunate bloke to still have a career here when combining his ability to make a name for himself in the top flight, his ability/worth for a big club which shouldn't have to shoulder passengers ala Shola, and the occurances which have led to him remaining in the first team picture - ie. Bellamy's depature and the subsequent failure to replace him immediately, one particular manager rating Shola higher than Kluivert, injuries at various stages to key players, and transfer deals which have failed to materialise. LooneyToonArmy
I’ll fight for Toon place – Ameobi Sep 13 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle SHOLA AMEOBI has revealed that he is ready to fight for his future at St James’s Park. The Nigerian-born striker must have been convinced his career was over during the summer after making it clear to the club that he wanted to leave in order to gain regular first-team football. And at 26, even former boss Kevin Keegan accepted the player’s wish to look for pastures new, There was interest from Hull City, Norwich, Toronto and, more prominently, Ipswich, where Ameobi failed a fitness test, largely due to a hamstring injury sustained during the pre-season friendly against Hertha Berlin in Mallorca. Yet the moment that the transfer window slammed shut, Shola knew he would be a United player until at least January given the paper-thin nature of Newcastle’s squad. He told the Chronicle: “I make no secret of the fact that I want to play for Newcastle United. “First and foremost, I want to stay here. Hopefully I will be given my chance in the next few months to do that. “We have a few players out and I want to grab my chance. If I can do that then great. “But it is down to me, I have to stay fit and make sure I work hard to try to improve my fitness and my all-round game.” Ameobi, who got married over the summer, has had a nightmare two years on the field, with hip and hamstring problems meaning his first-team involvement has been restricted. The striker’s last goal came against Bolton Wanderers almost two years ago in a 2-1 defeat back in the Glenn Roeder era. And the player who is currently United’s top scorer with 45 goals in terms of career strikes from the current squad at Gallowgate, admits it has been a difficult time. He added: “It’s been tough when you don’t know where you will be playing or you don’t know what’s happening. “But I have always just got my head down and got on with it. “I wanted to get fit and I am fit now. Now I want to get a couple of good performances together in a row. “Hopefully, this is the start of better times for me. It has been great to be back in the team and playing. I was out for a long time and been in and out of the team with injury. “We’ve got two weeks to build up our fitness. When you have an international break, you have to use it to get fitter.” Ameobi’s ultimate aim in a black-and-white shirt, though, has to be to lift silverware for the club he loves. And with the backlash from the Kevin Keegan situation, there has been little chance to reflect on what was a good home Carling Cup draw at home to Tottenham later this month. Shola added: “It could have been worse. We have the holders now. We are looking forward to it.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/09/13/i-ll-fight-for-toon-place-ameobi-72703-21811136/

Guest The Libertine
his shot/backpass to given/cross was nothing short of spectacular. unfortunately, there's a great chance the new manager will love him like the others have. at least keegan tried to get rid of him. M4
It was all on show today again: The first touches, the link up play, the constant fouling of the opposition, the brainless shots.... and my favourite: his super power of being able to absolutely always be caught by surprise or wrong footed by everything even a simple lay off.. sempuki
No and Yes. He's beyond redemption now, looks out of his depth. He was never this bad imo - never rated him obviously although he did seem less crap under SBR.

M4
never rated him obviously although he did seem less crap under SBR. I maintain he peaked somewhere during the season 03-04. Just a load of frustrating shit since (yes even during that time under Roeder).
