The 33-year-old victim was found outside Cosy Joes Pub, in the Groat Market in Newcastle, after police were called in the early hours. Mr Ranger, 20, was later arrested on suspicion of assault. Newcastle United refused to comment, but a source confirmed the striker had been arrested. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The injured man was unconscious and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary suffering from a suspected broken jaw. "The offender made off and police carried out a search of the area. "A 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later, nearby, on suspicion of assault and is currently helping police with their enquiries. "Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact them." Mr Ranger, from London, moved to Newcastle in July 2008 following his release by Southampton.

Guest BooBoo
Just sack the useless sack of shite. If you're going to act like an idiot, at least have the good grace to contribute on the field. Tit of a bloke, terrible striker. Just bin him.
TaylorJ_01
was one of his biggest defenders but I'd say bin him, not worth it.
Frazzle
Sammy is ahead of him in the pecking order now and I'm sure Pardew would rather play one striker and Vuckic over Ranger so he's on his way out either way.

Tit of a bloke, terrible striker. Just bin him. Hoping he does get charged tbh, just so we can use that as an excuse to just release him. Can't see us getting any money for the dickweed now. Nothing of worth, anyways.

Big Geordie
A waste of talent if this turns out to be true. Any one of us would give their right arm to have the chance that he has had and yet he acts like a total arsehole and could not only find himself sacked from the club, but sent to jail too. What a loser.
Klaus
Could the club potentially sack him for this? if so, DO IT!

Geordie Ahmed
Could the club potentially sack him for this? if so, DO IT! Considering they did not sack Carroll, doubt they could get away with sacking him (though I guess it helped that Saylor did not take the matter further)
