Bergvall for me. He's got it all, and will become a superstar if he can escape from Tottenham.

Porro if we lose Livramento wouldn't be bad either.

Gray has something about him, although not sure where he'd fit in for us.

Simons could be the technical wide player we've needed for a few years now.

VDV would walk into our back 4, and still be faster than anyone else.

Spence useful, can play at RB & LB

Luka Vuskovic seems to be having a decent season with newly promoted HSV. Only just turned 19.

If Spurs went down and we went for their over paid, over rated, injury prone past it dross like Maddison, Gallagher, Richarlison and Solanke instead of their incredibly promising future prospects, I'd be incredibly underwhelmed this summer

Agree with most of that, only thing I'd swap is Spence over Porro. VDV is a great player and is exactly what we need at the back.

Maddison would be our best creative player. Agreed his injury record is poor, but he's not past it. Far from it. He's their biggest loss in a long list of injured players.

To be honest I think most of their squad would improve us 😂

There's loads of them who'd walk in to the side.

I know he's not theirs but Palhinha would be excellent. Archie gray, djed, bergval, sarr, vdv, Porro.

Looking at their squad it's more who I wouldn't take 😂

I can't stand him, which I'll admit skews my view of him as a player, but all I see is a luxury player with zero fight who hardly plays. Makes Barnes look like Mr. Consistent. If we want to fix our team mentality and resolve, he'd be the absolute last fucking player from Spurs I'd want here.

I do wonder how much Maddison would go for considering his age and injury. Be worth a punt under £20m.

Kulusevski definitely, great player.

Pass. High wages and coming off a brutal injury. Goes against directionally where we’re going from a sign lower, sell higher position.

This is the thing - we’re about to get relegated but if it wasn’t for a mad half hour on a doctored pitch we could have been in the quarter-finals of the CL. And that’s missing half of those players.

There are loads of really good players in the squad, it’s just an unbalanced squad absolutely obliterated by injuries that was managed by somebody who wasn’t quite up to the task for half the season.

 Fair point obviously, and I’d love to put that team out again, only more than €200M of it is already out for the season.

It's a point I've been trying to make but keep getting hit with numbers. They've had loads of injuries of course, but they're scattered all over the pitch where they have very capable deputies in every position. They've very rarely had to play anyone out of position if ever. Maybe a full back on the side of the pitch they're least comfortable on. It's not the same as an injury crisis where you're missing 5/6 players in one position

Have a look at some of their worst results of the season:

Beat 3-0 by Forest in December. The team was Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Gray, Bentancur, Kudus, Simons, Kolo Muani, Richarlison. Davies, Palhinha, Bergvall, Tell and Johnson came off the bench.

Beat 1-2 by West Ham in January. Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Davies, Gray, Gallagher, Odobert, Simons, Tel and Kolo Muani. Spence, Bissouma, Solanke and Bergvall off the bench.

Beat 1-3 by Palace in March. Vicario, Palhinha, Danso, Van de Ven, Porro, Gray, Sarr, Souza, Kolo Muani, Tel, Solanke. Bissouma, Gallagher, Richarlison, Simons all on the bench.

They've always had a good team available.

  • Romero misses time but Danso or Dragusin are available.
  • Udogie misses time but Davies was available.
  • Davies missed time but Spence has been available.
  • Bentancur misses time but Palhinha has been available.
  • Kulusevski misses time but has been available.
  • Solanke misses time but Richarlison has been available.

I referenced us in 23/24 saying we had an injury crisis. An example was when we played Palace (lost 4-0). Our injury list was Fernandes, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Martinez, McTominay, Rashford, Shaw, Varane and Kambawala. We had to play Casemiro and Evans in centre back with Dalot as a left back because all our centre backs and left backs were out injured, even the youth ones. Our bench that day was Heaton, Bayindir, Amrabat, Amad, Collyer, Jackson, Ogunneye, Wheatley. Do any of you even know who half of them are? IMO, that's a crisis.

tl:dr Spurs have a lot of injuries, but it's no crisis. They can do one. Leffe can support us when they're down.

Aye, but since then Maddison and Bentancur are now back in the squad, with Bentancur even starting.

Would imagine against Villa it will be something like:

Kinsky

Porro

Van de Ven

Danso

Spence

Bentancur

Bissouma

Kolo Muani

Gallagher

Tel

Richarlison

Players like Dragusin, Gray, Palhinha, Maddison, Bergvall all on the bench and available.

It's still a £500m squad.

Absolutely. Without a number 10 or a right winger, or any left-footed players, but that's a consequence of injuries and poor squad construction. Madders is in as a mascot, RDZ himself said so. Hopefully we'll still be in it in the last game and he'll get to come on.

We've been playing players out of position all season, including Palhinha starting games at CB. You finished the season with Casemiro and Evans playing when Maguire got injured, but you were safe at that point. It was a crisis, as I said, but if you offer me Palhinha and Davies at CB again if it meant I could have Madders, Kulu, Kudus and Solanke on the pitch I'll take your hand off.

Edit: Also, just looking at those games you picked - before the game at Forest we were 11th, just three points behind you and above Newcastle. So yeah, that's a decent team with a manager who's already starting to struggle but not a serious issue. Then you say we "very rarely had to play anyone out of position if ever" then post the XI against Palace with Palhinha at RB, and a Brazilian teenage LB at RW

It was 3-4-3 that day due to your manager being a mentalist. Palhinha was in CM with Sarr.

Could've easily been four at the back with Porro and Gray as FBs, and Bissouma, Simons, or Gallagher as the extra midfielder (all came on as subs, it seems, along with Richarlison).

Makes sense, I thought that was one of the games where Palhinha was RB moving to RCB when defending. Was trying to remember what the formation was before VdV was sent off. So the RB is at RCB (no Romero or Dragusin),  the CM is at RM (no Kudus or Odobert) and the LB is at LM (no Udogie or Maddison).

Who’s missing? Those six plus Kulu, Bergvall, Spence, Bentancur. Maybe more, I’ve completely lost track - Byfield and Luca Williams-Barnett are kids who would have been CB and sub and have been injured for weeks.

I presume Froggy’s just on the wind-up pretending we have had nobody out of position, but we’ve absolutely spent a lot of money on a lot of players. Kudus, Odobert and Simons were brought in partly as cover for Kulu and Maddison, and now all five are injured. One of the problems is the constant drip drip of new injuries coupled with the long term ones meaning you can’t play the same team more than a couple of games in a row. Remember that stat about us not going two weeks without a new injury since March 2023 or whenever it was?

Like I’ve said repeatedly, we’ve fucked up the management and fucked up the squad building. We were still 11th before that Forest match but since then the injuries have just got worse and worse, with the accompanying psychological and physical effects. If you have a core of regular players you can mitigate things - ignoring Bayinder, Man U had five players in 45 or more squads that year. Fernandes, Dalot, Garnacho, Onana, McTominay. We’ve had one. Kinsky - the reserve keeper. In the best of times it’s hard to change the first XI every week, when you have a new manager it’s a recipe for disaster.

Not on the wind up. Just going by what the line-ups were on Flash Scores.

Lots of injuries, but very capable teams were put out for every game. Teams more capable than 18th that's for sure.
