BTW some guy just posted this:

It genuinely has a debilitating effect on you as a fan. You remember what it was like for you three years ago, or whenever you had that crisis. All the while the media either downplayed it or ignored it.

There’s clearly something very wrong, although whether it’s conditioning, medical staff, the pitch? No idea.

I'd add tempo of the game and amount of games on top of that as the main factor, but you clearly have some issues to sort out in terms of medical team/sport scientists/physios and possibly recruitment as well without knowing the injury record of players you've bought the last couple of years prior to joining Spurs.

Isn't the theory that the retractable pitch is a lot more dangerous for players? Real Madrid have similar setup and had loads of problems with injuries as well.

Spurs have played in their stadium for about 3-4 years without any significant increase in injuries.

Yeah, it's a really rough one for him, obviously out of the world cup as well.

Fortunately ACL's aren't the career enders they once were, but he sounded pretty distraught in his own comments about it.

Wonder if he’s got a wage reduction clause if they go down?

Obviously they can’t sell him now and having a player on the thick end of £200k a week in the Champ, who can’t even play for you, would seem pretty ruinous.

Spurs have had some horrendous luck with injuries like. Simons has been absolutely woeful for most of the season, but he's looked a little better recently be all accounts, then this happens

IMO they still have more than enough about them to not be 18th like.

Apparently they all have 50%.

I agree. They've been absolutely shite. For a club like Spurs to go down though, the stars do need to align and that seems to be happening.

I’ve always seen their injury issues as a hangover from the Ange era that they’ve just not managed to outrun due to volume of games and the permanent state of crisis they are in. A proper vicious circle.

Think there's something in the retractable pitch theory.

Real have had a lot of ACLs in the last few years.

What is the theory? Appreciate there appears a trend but what's the logic in linking it to the retractable pitch?

Genuine question btw.

The idea I've heard discussed is that the pitches are firmer and the layer of grass thinner to accommodate the retractable system beneath which may lead to players having less grip, slipping more and the firmer surface taking more of a toll on the body.

Some clubs do spend significant money on pitch consultants to improve their performances and reduce injuries.  Considering the injuries they've had in the last few years, it wouldn't be a surprise to find that the stadium pitch or training ground pitches were causing problems.

Guardian article from a few years ago.

Got a feeling they've changed a lot of the people in the medical team since then but as a premise I largely think the same.

Their reporters reckon most have a 50% clause, was reported on a couple of months back.

Yeah, this has been the problem. You can point to any number of possibilities why this is happening and presumably it’s a combination of them all.

Canny ironic they built a mega stadium with the idea for it to create other revenues streams, only for the pitch to buckle so many of their senior players it relegates the club costing them quarter of a billion pounds.

We actually don't know that much about injury prevention.

So there's loads of "schools of thought". Liverpool for a long time trained hard and played hard. A lot of the time their fitness record was largely great but then they would have some horror seasons. The idea is that players got used to that intensity so that prevented major injuries. Under Slot - they seem to get less small muscle injuries but more major injuries. The idea is that some parts of the body aren't conditioned to intensity and then suddenly an achilles snaps.

When did Wolves get a retractable pitch like ?

I imagine the theory is that repeatedly playing on Spurs pitch, some how weakens the ACL long term, so it’s then more susceptible to go pop at some point, regardless of whether that time happens to be when Spurs are at home.

Although if you take Madison, he done his against us in America pre-season, so it had probably been months since he actually played on Spurs pitch.
